Question Number 1

Find out the total outward flux from the spherical shell 1 r 2 m, if the charge
density in the volume is represented by
5 cos2

= , (1)
r4
in C M3 .

Question Number 2

Find out the total electric flux from a cube 0 < x, y, z 1 m, containing volume
charge density = 16 x y z micro Coulomb m3 and =8.861012 C2 /N .M2 .

Question Number 3

An electric field is defined as E = k [y 2 i + (2xy + z 2 ) j + (2yz) k]. Show that it is a

possible conservative electrostatic field. Now a test charge is moving in this electric field
over the path as shown in the below given Figure, then calculate the expression for the
potential V . Can you trace back the above mentioned form of the electric field vector E
from this potential. Comment on your answer.

Question Number 4

Between the two plates, the left plate (lets say fixed at origin) is maintained at
potential Vo. What would be the expected potential at x=10 (in arbitrary units) if the
second plate (R.H.S.) is lying at x=50 (in arbitrary units) with V=V0/10.

Question Number 5

An infintely long cavity is in the X-direction. Its length is very-2 large compared to
its width, therefore, potential strictly varies only in one direction, i.e., along x. Its one
end was fixed at origin with potential Vo while the other end goes at infinity with zero
potential. What will be the potential at x=100 (in arbitrary units).

3

When the source potential Vo is modified by the slow time modulating factor of Vo
SIN(wt) for t=1000 s with a periodicity of 2000 s, then what solution you will expect at
x= 100 (in arbitrary units) for the existing potential there ? Will this solution be valid ?
Comment out that what you would like to think and what result you will obtain in case if
the solution is valid.

Question Number 6

Given point P (2, 6, 3) and vector A = y ax + (x + z) ay , express P and Vector A in

cylindrical and spherical coordinates. Evaluate mod A at P in the Cartesian, cylindrical,
and spherical coordinate systems.

Question Number 7

Magnetic vector field B = (10/r) ar + (r cos) a + a is expressed in spherical polar

coordinate. Express it in cartesian and cylindrical coordinate systems. Evaluate B (3, 4, 0)
and B (5, /2, 2).

Question Number 8

A cube of 2 m side is centered at the origin with the edges parallel to the axes. Within
the cube E = 10 x3 i in SI units. What will be the total charge contained in the cube.
=8.861012 C2 /N .M2
