Introduction

This book MEDITATION IN BUDDHISM made by Mr. Tanapol Dusadeepruetthiphan .the

purpose of this book is to explain the importance of meditation and the pathway to reach the

calmness with precaution .The information based by two peoples from Somdet Phra

Sagharja Sakalamahsaghaparin yaka( The head of Thai Buddhist monk) and Phra

Dharmakosacarya (known as Buddhadasa Bhikkhu). All of the information that I have listed,

led to The power of meditation. Lastly, I hope that this book will provide an information

that useful for the every people who focusing in Buddhism as well as for the study guide in

the future dates.


MEDITATION IN BUDDHISM

Meditation was a main part of every Buddhist principle like in the three virtue includes

virtue, concentration and discernment or In the Noble Eightfold Path includes Sammaditthi

(right understanding),Sammasankappa (right thought), Sammavaca (Right Speech)

Sammakammanta(right action),samma-ajiva (right livelihood),sammavayama(right

effort),sammasati(right mindfulness) and sammasamadhi(right concentration) .we can see

that both Buddhist principle include concentration. As Lord Buddha said to every monk All

the monks shall train meditation because people who have a set mind, will discover the truth

therefore, meditation is the one of significant dharma practices in Buddhism. But some

people understand that meditation was just a religious practice for monk and novice which is

not true. Meditation is not just only for religious practice, it is generally a normal practice that

everyone can use and practice it. So, first let understand the concept of meditation.
Meditation is simply consist your intention and must focus in one single thing. It also involve

in our learning or careers. For learning, when we read book we also have to concentrate on

reading. When we write a book we also have to concentrate on writing. When we listen to

teacher we also have to listen and catch the main idea from the speaking. But furthermore

than that, those intention above must consist of body and mind together. For example: In

reading, our body must be ready to read just like when we open a book our eyes must looking

the content and our mind must read the content too. Not just looking the content with the

absence of mind. So after we use our body and mind in reading we understand and gain the

information quicker than those who not pay attention. Because understanding is one of the

discernment or in other word we create discernment from reading a book in case if the body

and mind simultaneously reading a book then we will reduce the time taken, understand the

information quicker and ability to recognize. So, body and mind = concentration

For careers and works, everything

are all the same as above whether

the work that use body, speech or

mind also include concentration

in that works to achieve the goal

in the future. Therefore,

meditation practice is very

important and useful for everyone

in the world.
Henceforth, we will talk about the meditation practice because the intention to create

concentration must needs a practice. Just like human brain. When human learn something the

brain cell will growth and become stronger overtime if they keep learning. But it also can be

weaken if human dont keep continue learning same as meditation if we stop practice then the

concentration will be harder to create and not strong. Even though, we have body and mind

for meditation practice we still have to face a difficulties since body and mind wont create

when we got distract by stress or stuck in something. The distraction that has mentioned

above is define as desire. Desire was cause by unstable mind including love, infatuation,

hated and anger for example: When our mind is fidget

with the influence of feeling. We may takes more

time to finish the duty because your mind

wasnt focus in single thing means that we have

lose the concentration. So, controlling our feeling

is a prominent role to against the influence of desire.

Meditation practice can be separated into two parts: practice to fix the feeling and desire in

the mind that will occur soon another one is to practice to develop the power of mind.

First, feeling and desire in mind, sometimes those can be love. Love that cause our mind to

shake and restless led to lose the concentration. When our mind is being like this we must

calm our mind from loves because it affect your learning, the works that we do as long as

stability in life. Those things above was related to one of the Lord Buddha solution

conquest the feeling from your own feeling and the peace will come after thus,

everyone must make it before reach the calmness.


What about anger? Every human have anger but if we change anger to love with mercy. Like

a love from parent or relatives.

What about infatuation? Infatuation also the same. It must change from being infatuated to

not infatuate.

No matter what the State of mind will be, At last we must describe the feeling like what do I

feel.

When the mind is fall in love feeling. Love is create. If the mind was not fall in a love

feeling but it was in inverse feeling then the calmness will be create.it does not mean that we

change feeling from love to hate but the point is that not to let the mind fall into the feeling.

Also the anger, if the anger was change into not feel anger then the anger will be cool down.

Infatuation also the same as above, when the mind was not infatuated then the infatuation will

be cool down.

That why Lord Buddha had teach that what

feeling should we set the mind, in what time and

then we will know the route of the happiness,

peace and calmness.

In conclusion, to change something into another is not difficult as what we think but it needs

time to achieve it. That is nature. If we dont try then how do we know the actual result?

Doesnt it?
Everything that has a beginning has an

ending..make your peace with that and all

will be well
