Iwillbringextensiveexperiencewithbothsatelliteandterrestrialwirelessnetworks
includingemergingphysicallayercharacteristicsandspectrumconsiderations.Ihave
expertiseinphysicallayermodulationanderrorcontrolcoding,multipleaccess,routing
andnetworkcoding,andcrosslayerinteractions.Throughinvolvementwitharangeof
militaryandcommercialcommunicationstandards,Ibringauniqueperspectiveonthe
practicalissuesofintegratingsignaldesign,protocols,andalgorithmsintocommunication
waveforms.
Ibringbroadknowledgeofmilitaryandcommercialcommunicationsatellitesystems,both
transpondedandprocessed.AstheLincolnleadfortheIPRouterinSpace(IRIS)Joint
ConceptTechnologyDemonstration(JCTD),Ibuiltnetworktesttoolsandconductedboth
laboratoryandovertheairtestsoftheIRIScommercialprocessedandroutedsatellite
payload.Thisprojectprovidedmewithinsightintocommercialsatellitepracticesand
payloadtechnologies,aswellasnetworkarchitectureforsupportingmultiplecustomers
overaspacerouter.IhaveextensiveexperiencewithdynamicresourceallocationandIP
qualityofservicemechanismsinsatellitesystems.
Ialsohaveworkedonotheraspectsofcooperativenetworking.Iamresearchingnetwork
codingforheterogeneouscooperativenetworkscombiningonthemovesatellite
communicationwithterrestrialwireless.Ialsoamstudyingdynamicspectrumaccessand
spectrummanagement,particularlycooperativetechniquesforspectrumsharingand
coexistenceofcommunicationsandotherspectrumdependentsystems(e.g.radar).Iam
familiarwiththechallengesofnetworkinginaustereenvironmentsrelevantformilitary,
disasterrelief,firefighting,andothercriticalareas.
IholdaPh.D.inElectricalEngineeringfromtheUniversityofMichigan(2001)during
whichIwasanNSFGraduateResearchFellowandreceivedtheAFCEAPostGraduate
Fellowship.

Militaryusersandtheirinteragencypartnershaveacurrentandgrowingneedforhigh
performanceheterogeneousnetworks.Thebroaderperspective,contacts,andinsightsI
willgainfromthisworkshopwillprovidebenefittoLincolnLabsgovernmentsponsorsto
improveournationalcapability.Thisworkshopwillalsoallowmetolearnmoreabout
currentpracticesinhigherrateandwirelinetechnologiesandextendmycommunityof
contactsandpotentialcollaborators.
Ilookforwardtonetworkingwithotherthoughtleadersinthefieldtogeneratefreshideas
andcollaborationsfornationalproblems.
