WRITING
This week we will begin applying persuasive techniques to more authentic activities. For example,
students will be given real life topics and scenarios where they will be required to use ethos, logos, and
pathos to persuade their audience of what they believe. A mini-project will be assigned at the
beginning of this week and will be due in two weeks.
Essential Questions: How can I use persuasive techniques to persuade others in real life situations?
READING
We will begin Unit 4 this week. Unit 4 is all about exploring social issues. Students will learn about
perspective, power, and position. They will also learn that mistakes can lead to life lessons, can teach
us life lessons, and that characters can change and reveal lessons to us as readers.
Essential Questions: How can I learn to listen for my perspective, power, and position when I am
reading? How can mistakes lead to life lessons? How can stories teach us about life lessons? How can
the character in my story teach me a life lesson?
MATH
After taking our unit test on Performing Operations with Decimals on Monday, we will review how to
classify triangles by their sides and angles and how to classify quadrilaterals by their attributes.
Essential Questions: EQ: How do we use area models and drawings to perform various operations with
decimals? How can you classify triangles? (Lesson 11.2)
How can you classify and compare quadrilaterals? (Lesson 11.3) How can you classify triangles and quadrilaterals?
Essential Questions: What were the key developments in technology, aviation, weaponry, and
communication? What were their effects on World War II and the United States economy?

review producers, consumers, and decomposers. Then we will move into how these three types of
organisms work together to create food chains and food webs.
Essential Questions: How can I identify the roles of organisms as they interact?
