En la actualidad, la resistencia de las bacterias aerobias frente a los
distintos agentes antimicrobianos est aumentando, debido prin-
cipalmente a su utilizacin como medidas profilcticas antes de
determinados procedimientos bucodentales (20). Por este motivo,
pocos antimicrobianos continan presentando la misma actividad
frente a los estreptococos orales (patgenos aerobios mayorita-
rios en la cavidad bucal), como es el caso del cloranfenicol (21),
aunque su uso se encuentra limitado debido a la toxicidad que
presenta. Asimismo, esta bacteria muestra porcentajes de resisten-
cia elevada del 15%-65% frente a macrlidos (22), y resistencia
de alto nivel a aminoglucsidos y a tetraciclinas (21).
Los porcentajes de bacterias resistentes en la cavidad bucal se han
incrementado en los ltimos aos, siendo claros ejemplos los
estreptococos bucales y Eikenella corrodens. Streptococcus del
grupo viridans presenta una prevalencia creciente de la resistencia
frente a determinados agentes antimicrobianos, como principal-
