Subject/Course: Honors World History Grades: 9th

Stage1---Desired Results
Content Standards:
Strand 2-Concept 6: Age of Revolution
PO 4. Analyze the developments of the French Revolution and rule of Napoleon: Reign of Terror, rise of
Napoleon spread of nationalism in Europe, defeat of Napoleon and Congress of Vienna.

Enduring Understanding/Big Idea:

The reasons behind a revolution are complex and the outcome isnt always predictable.

Essential Questions:

Is there anything the monarchy could/should have done to prevent the revolution?
Was Napoleons rise to power inevitable?
Did Napoleon betray or support the ideals of the French Revolution?

Stage 2----Assessment Evidence

Unit (Summative) Assessment:
Through what authentic performance task will students demonstrate the desired
understanding?
Part I: On the first day of the unit students fill out the cover sheet for their portfolio. This cover
sheet has a place for them to write the learning goals (we will fill these out on day 1 of unit), list
the contents (which will be all worksheets and tasks that can physically be collected), and a
section for self-assessment. Portfolios are due at the end of the unit, once the final assessment is
complete.
Part II: On the final day of the assessment students will be placed into pairs. Each group will be
handed an envelope with 5 pictures and 5 random date/event cards. Given butcher paper and
the use of their books and notes they will be expected to create a timeline that includes not only
what they were given but at least five other dates/events. (150 pts)
Stage 3----Learning Plan
Learning Activities:
Attach a detailed planning calendar that maps out activities and lessons for a 2+ week unit. Use a variety
of instructional strategies (modeling, interactive lecture, discussion, primary document analysis, debate,
simulation, graphic organizers, student presentations, etc).
