State Bank of India (SBI) has announced its recruitment drive for Probationary Officers
(PO) for the year 2017 on 07th February 2017. There are a total of 2,313 vacancies
across all categories of candidates. The application, for sitting the selection
process for SBI PO exam 2017, can be made till 06th March 2017. However, there are a
few eligibility criteria that you need to consider before applying for the exam. These are
based on:
Educational Qualification
Age
Number of previous attempts made
Character
Current employees of Government/ Quasi Government offices.
Checking your eligibility before registering for the State Bank PO recruitment process is
important as, in case you are not found eligible at the time of the interview, your
candidature will be rejected irrespective of your performance in the examinations,
group discussion and interview. Thus, an error in verifying your eligibility may lead to a
lot of wastage of time and effort.
Now, let us look at the four eligibility criteria for SBI PO in detail. Note, that you should
be eligible on the basis of all the four criteria laid below.

Eligibility on the basis of Educational Qualification

You are eligible by the Educational Qualification criteria, if you are a graduate or are in
the final year of your degree (or equivalent qualification) course, in any discipline, from
any recognized University and possess or will be able to get a final mark-sheet or
passing certificate that is dated on or before 01 July 2017. All Chartered Accountants
are also eligible to apply.

Eligibility on the basis of Age

The Age criteria is based upon your category. However, there are a few criteria that hold
good for all candidates, irrespective of the category you wish to apply under. These are
as below:
You are not eligible to apply if you were born on or after 1st April 1996. There
are no relaxations on this minimum age criteria.
You are eligible to apply if you were born on or between 2nd April 1987 and
1st April 1996. However, if you were born before 2nd April 1987, and are not a
candidate from the General (or GEN with Category Code 13), you should check
the table below. The table includes the major categories of General, SC/ST, OBC
in the columns and the rows indicate the other categories like PWD, Ex-

Servicemen and domiciles of the state of J&K. To verify your eligibility by Age,
look at the cell at the cross-section of major categories and other categories under
which you will apply. You should not have been born before or earlier than the
date in the corresponding cell.

NOTES:
*The mentioned Officers/ Servicemen need to have rendered a minimum of 5
years military service and should not have been discharged on the basis
of misconduct or inefficiency or physical disability attributable to military service
or invalidment.
OBC candidates NOT belonging to Creamy Layer are entitled to age
relaxations under the OBC category. Otherwise, you need to register under the
"General" category.
In-case, you are applying under any category for age relaxation, then you should
be able to produce a valid certificate from concerned authority at the time of
interview. The certificate format and authority are mentioned in the .SBI PO
Notification 2017

Eligibility on the basis of Number of previous attempts

The number of times you can appear for SBI PO exams is restricted on the basis of your
category. SC/ ST candidates are not restricted on number of chances and ence, if you
belong to any of these categories then you are eligible to apply. Number of attempts are
only counted from the SBI PO Examination held on 18th April 2010 and any
appearances in Prelims examination are not counted as an attempt. The table
below provide the maximum number of times you can sit for the SBI PO Mains
examination. Thus, if you have already crossed the below mentioned limit, you are NOT
eligible to apply for SBI PO exam 2017 on this criteria.

Eligibility on the basis of Character

There are two conditions, which if applicable to you, make you in-eligible to apply for
the State Bank's PO exam 2017. These are:
If you have defaulted on repayment of a loan or credit card dues. These days,
everyone's CIBIL report is available which outlines the person's financial health.
And the Bank can easily check your record. So, either pay up the dues or do not
sit for this exam. You can check your CIBIL Score here.
If there are adverse reports regarding your character or signifying a conduct
contrary to honesty or moral values, you will not be considered eligible to apply.

Eligibility on the basis of your current employment with a Government/ Quasi

Government organization
In case you are currently employed with a Government/ Quasi Government office or
Public Sector undertakings, you will only be eligible for the selection process of State
Bank for Probationary Officers post if you are able to produce the following:
A No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of interview, and
A Discharge Certificate from the employer at the time of joining.
Thus, if you fulfill all the above mentioned five criteria, you should consider yourself to
be eligible to apply for the State bank's PO recruitment being held during 2017. And,
