Fahrenheit 451 Socratic Seminar
Socratic Seminars can be a fun and valuable activity to help everyone gain
knowledge or see a different perspective that may have never seen before.
However, they only work to accomplish any of this if everyone participates and
remains respectful of other students and their opinions. This assignment will be
worth 100 points (20 points for the written questions/answers, 80 points for the in-
class activity).
Pre-Writing:
1. Create 5 text-based questions that you have about anything in Fahrenheit
451 (themes, characters, symbolism, anything you are confused about or
want someones opinion on, etc.).
2. Answer these text-based questions to the best of your ability.
Socratic Seminar Rules:
1. You MUST speak a minimum of 4 times.
2. You MUST ask at least 2 questions.
3. Focus on ideas and values in the text.
4. Keep an open mind.
5. Invite everyone to share their ideas.
6. Use others names.
7. Remember that one person speaks at a time.
8. Make clear, accurate statements.
9. REFER TO THE TEXT or other valuable sources.
10.Test assumptions and explore inferences.
11.Acknowledge changes in your perspective.
12.Offer a more global interpretation of a previous statement.
