Health Effects of Substance Abuse
Compulsive cravings combined with prolonged substance abuse can prompt
physical consequences throughout the body. Most substances will cause
strain on the organ, as well as the venous and respiratory system after
prolonged use. Many forms of addiction alter the users physical make-up,
sometimes even just after a few weeks of use.
Addiction is a chronic disease that affects the mind and the body. It is
caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that initiate a physical
longing or compulsion for a specific substance or behavior.
Health Effects of Drug Use
Heavy alcohol consumption will increase your risk for chronic health concerns
like:
- Anemia
- Cancer
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Cirrhosis of the liver
- Dementia
- Depression
- Hypertension
- Gout
- Seizures
- Nerve damage
Alcohol health effects can impair judgment, which makes operating
machinery, driving or engaging in other behaviors risky. Drinking heavily also
weakens the immune system, and combined with impaired judgment may
increase your risk for infection and sexually transmitted disease like
HIV/AIDs.

Addiction most commonly develop into stimuli that influence ones mood,
including substances like drugs and alcohol. It could affect the brain that
interfere with the normal communication and alter ones perception of
pleasure and pain. Addiction at first is kinda hard to leave, especially if it is
habitual but with the help of rehab, medication, and your courage and
determination to change your behavior then its easy. Theres this saying
