Which Sugar Affects the Density of Water Brown and White Sugar?
After her plane crashed into the Indian Ocean in 20009, Bahia Bakari held on to a piece
of plane wreckage for nine hours. People found her in the ocean with no life vest. This shows
density because the piece of the plane was dense enough to float on water, and as a result saved
Bahia Bakaris life. If I mix brown and white sugar to water and food dye, then brown sugar will
What is Density?
There are many definitions for density. One definition is the relative heaviness of objects,
and it is measured in units of mass or weight measured per volume. It is also the state of being
measure of the compactness of a substance, expressed as its mass per unit volume.(Definition)
Density is a measurement of how compact the atoms are in a substance. If an object is more
dense the atoms will be more tightly packed. If it is less dense then there will be more empty
space in the object. More dense object sink when they are in less dense substances.
When the temperature rises, the molecules in liquids and gases move more quickly. This
makes them collide with each other more often. When this happens, molecules spread apart,
meaning there are fewer molecules given volume and the substances density decreases.(When

temperature decreases molecules move slower, as the collide less and take up less space. As a
result the density of the substance increases.(How) When heating a substance molecules speed
up and spread slightly further apart. On the other hand, when cooling a substance molecules
speed up and get slightly closer together. This occupies a smaller volume which makes the
density increase.(Temperature)
There are many ways to measure density, depending on its properties and what type of
equipment you have. Since different objects have different densities, measuring its density can
help the materials that are in it.When measuring a liquid and a regularly shaped object, mass and
volume can be discovered by direct measurement. These two measurements can be used to
determine density. Use a pan to balance, determine, and record the mass of an object in grams. A
vernier, caliper, or ruler measures the length, depth, and width of an object in
centimeters.Multiply all three measurements to find the volume in cubic centimeters.Divide the
When stirring a spoonful of sugar in a glass of water, you are forming a solution. This
liquid solution is composed of a solid solute, the sugar, and a liquid solvent which is the water.
When the sugar molecules spread evenly through the water, it dissolves. The sugar dissolves
faster in a liquid when it is warm or hot. If the water is cold it will take longer for the sugar
molecules to dissolve. Mixing a liquid into a gas makes another type of solution called a gaseous
solution. An example of this would be humidity. Humidity is water, the liquid, dissolved in air,
the gas.(Science)

White sugar undergoes further washing with hot water and separation through
centrifugation and filtration. The naturally white crystals that remain are 99.9 percent fructose.
This sugar can go into grinding machines that produces different size granules. When you mix
white sugar crystals with many different amounts of molasses, it results in a soft lumpy mixture,
called brown sugar. The amount of molasses added can depend on the producer. You could
expect light brown sugar to have about 3.5% molasses. While dark, brown sugar can contain
about 6.5% molasses. Brown sugar can impart the taste of molasses to to recipes and add
What are the Densities of Brown and White Sugar in Their Solid State?
The density of white sugar is 1.59 grams per cubic centimeter. This sugar has the
chemical formula of C12H22O11. The molecule weight of sugar is 342.296 grams per mole. The
Melting point of this compound is 365.9 degrees fahrenheit. Sugar is soluble in water and not
soluble in ethyl ether. Another name for table sugar is sucrose, which is a disaccharide. a
are the two monosaccharides that form the disaccharide. Monosaccharides are simple
sugars.(What)
If I mix brown and white sugar to water and food dye, then brown sugar will have a
greater effect. Bahia Bakari was released three weeks later from the hospital, after undergoing
treatment and surgery. She released a memoir book in 2010 called I am Bahia Bakari the
Miracle Girl. It had the story of her survival and rescue. Bakari survived one of the most
