An assessment Technology tool that a teacher can use to assess his or her students is

Kahoot. Educators can use Kahoot to conduct formative assessments. The data that they collect

can be used to incorporate different teaching strategies and enhance student performance. First,

the lesson will be introduced with a video by Study.com on the Human Anatomy. After viewing

the video, students will log in to the

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/health/anatomy/skeleton/Skeleton_game_1.htm. Then they

will log in to Kahoot.com with their mobile devices. Each student will have 10 seconds to

answer questions that pertains to the Human anatomy before moving on to the next one. At the

end of the game, each students score will be displayed and a report will be instantly generated

and printed out. That way, the teacher will be able to compile a formative assessment on each

students performance. At the same time, teachers will be able to differentiate their assignments

to meet the needs of students that may need extra help learning and naming the parts of the

Introduction

Due to the advancement of technology, teachers can instantly assess their

students progress and grades with the use of an assessment technology online application.
According to G. Gunter & R. Gunter (2015), Assessment is any method used to understand the

current knowledge a student possesses; it can range from a teachers subjective judgment based

on a single observation of a students performance to a state-mandated standardized test.

Teachers can use different methods of assessment technology in establishing instructional goals

reflecting local curriculum, assessing goal attainment, forecasting standards mastery, and using

assessment information to guide differentiated instruction and professional development (ATI

Galileo, 2017). There are many assessments that teachers can use to assess pupils performance,

teachers can use online assessments to collect data of their students performance, diversify

classroom instructions, improve, and enhance learning. The three online formative assessments

that will be discussed in this paper are Flubaroo, Google Forms, and Socrative.

Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning

Teachers can utilize technology to facilitate the ongoing efforts to facilitate the ongoing

efforts to assess student learning in the classroom by using different assessments. There are tools

available to assist teachers in analyzing data. Per G. Gunter & R. Gunter (2015, p. 364),

teachers must use many forms of assessment to evaluate student performance. Teachers can

use benchmarks, milestone tests, progress reports, quizzes, MAP concept, or iRead to assess and

evaluate a students performance. When compiling data, it should reflect the childs strengths or

weakness toward a set objective. Afterwards, teachers can use the information to implement and

incorporate strategies in their lessons beforehand that will accommodate every learner.

Flubaroo

The first assessment that will be discussed is Flubaroo. Flubaroo is an excellent website

to conduct formative assessments. It is a free website, that can be used as an added feature of

Google Forms. So, if teachers are already members of Google Forms they can add this feature to
their existing Google form. It offers tools that teachers can use in the classroom to assess the

performance of every student. It offers instant real-time feedback so teachers can create

assignment to meet the needs of each learner. Teachers can utilize this website to import and

calculate grades, create progress reports, and spreadsheets. Flubaroo can also be assessed in an

away from the classroom setting with either a computer or mobile devices.

Google Forms

The second assessment tool that will be discussed is Google Forms. Google forms is an

excellent website to conduct formative and summative assessments. It is not a free website, but

it offers both businesses and schools features that will enable teachers to gain instant feedback of

their students performance. Teachers can utilize this website to create quizzes, exit tickets,

worksheets, and course evaluations. Google forms can be assessed in an away from the

classroom setting with either a computer or mobile devices. In addition, these forms can be used

to interact with students and other teachers and as a collaborative tool.

Socrative

The final assessment tool that will be discussed is Socrative. Per Deichman (2014),

Socrative 2.0 is an online assessment and student response tool that can be run on any platform

that has a connection to the Internet. Socrative is an excellent website to conduct formative

assessments. It is not a free website, but it offers schools features that will enable teachers to

gain instant feedback of their students performance. Teachers can utilize this website to create

quizzes, exit tickets, questions, and a Space Race. They can also use Socrative to launch reports,

and use in multiple rooms. Socrative can be assessed with computers, laptops, or with a mobile

device. In addition, this online assessment can be used to engage its students and make learning

fun.
 Formative and Summative Assessments:

Formative and Summative assessments are two ways in which teachers can assess

students performance in the classroom. Based on G. Gunter & R. Gunter (2015), Formative

assessment is the evaluation of student learning based on a specific time span at multiple points

by gathering various activities and assignments to make sure the learner is developing the

knowledge, skills, and ability to master the content. Whereas, Summative assessment is the

process of evaluating the student learning at any given point in time (G. Gunter & R. Gunter,

2015). An example of a formative assessment is a pre-and posttest. Whereas as an end of course

test could be used as a summative assessment. When conducting either assessment, teachers can

use different technology methods that can assist them in compiling formative and summative

assessments. Teachers can use assessment technology to measure, monitor, record, and analyze

the progress of each students progress. Once the data is collected, it will project the strengths

and weaknesses of each student. It will also allow the teacher an opportunity to prepare lessons

that appeal to every learner.

Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment

When using technology to facilitate students assessments, teachers must keep in mind

that the type of assessment that they use may or may not always be the right tool to assess the

performance of every learner. In other words, teachers should be made aware of both pros and

cons of the use of technology assessments. To do so, teachers must use Reliable assessments

accurately estimate student performance, permit appropriate generalizations about the students

skills and abilities, and enable teachers or other decision makers to make appropriate decisions

(G. Gunter & R. Gunter, 2015, p. 364). When planning assessments, teachers should have an idea

or data of the learning level of each student, each student learning styles, and capabilities. In
contrast, teachers may incorporate other forms of assessments that will meet the needs of every

learner if the tools they use should fail the learner academic needs.

Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?

When assessing students performance, teachers should use different assessment tools to

assess their students. In other words, teachers may not just use only technology to assess

students. To do this, it will enable teachers to find the right assessment that will accommodate

every learner and not just a one size fit teaching strategy.

What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?

For teachers, it is imperative that they use assessments that are in compliant with the

ISTE standards. According to the ISTE .org, The ISTE Standards describe the skills and

knowledge they need to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly global and

digital society (2017). In doing so, teachers should use assessment resources that every learner

can relate to and learn from.

Conclusion

There are many forms of assessments. Assessments are vital tools that teachers can use

in the classrooms to assess the performance of their students. Teachers can conduct formative

and summative assessments traditionally or with the use of technology. At the same time,

teachers must take in consideration that every student may not be assessed the same way. After

an assessment is made, teachers can analyze the data to diversify instructions, monitor students

progress, and enhance learning.
