EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The project was carried out at the roadway segment of La Molina Avenue in the district of
La Molina where traffic is moderate. This study is divided into five parts, in which the
characteristics, problems, maps and description of each are listed.
The study was carried out one day of the week (Thursday) made in the morning for two
hours. The counts were separated by every 15 minutes and separating cars, trucks, buses,
taxis, motorcycles and others.
The objective of this report is to calculate the design hour volume (DHV), the pick hour
factor (PHF), the directional factor (D), and the percentage of tucks (PT). Also, estimate
the density (K) at a specific time (t). Moreover perform a speed study with at least 30
observations and calculate the level of service for each direction from this roadway
segment.

CHAPTER I
We have counted cars during 2 hours in the morning. These results were averaged and
separated according to the direction in which were coming and also separated each 15
minutes in order to help us to identify the peak hour. We will present you a table with these
results and they will be multiplied by their respective equivalency factors.
In order to calculate the pick hour factor, we use the following equation:
volumne
peak 15min
4
Peak hour volume
PHF=
Then, to calculate the design hour volume, we use the following equation
PHV
DHV =
PHF
So, we obtained:
454
PHF= =0.9537
4 (119)
PHF=0.95
454
DHV = =477.89

PHF=0.92

DHV = =570.652

CHAPTER II
In this part of the report we have to calculate the average speed of the vehicles in the
segment road.
We took many velocities of different vehicles. For this we took the distance of the road
avenue which is 50 mts. and in order to get the speed we use a stopwatch. With this we
obtain:

- SUMMARY
-
- The road segment of current traffic problems Avenue La Molina, such as
public transport and taxis, as stop when the traffic light is green, this
problem in both directions.
-
- From west to east and east to west has only three traffic lights, and
there are a lot of vehicles on this road segment, causing a lot of traffic.
-
- A traffic light on Industrial Separadora and another on Avenue Builders,
but the problem is that many vehicles arriving at Industrial Separadora
and turn right before the traffic lights, causing a lot of traffic in this
segment as well.
-
- The above problems must be resolved as soon as possible to make
feasible intersection.
