Review Sheet Results
1. Explain one way in which facilitated diffusion is the same as simple diffusion and one way in which it is different from
simple diffusion.
Your answer:
Facilitated diffusion is the same as simple diffusion such that both exhibits transport in a high concentration gradient to a low
concentration gradient. Facilitated diffusion is different from simple diffusion because in order to increase the rate of the
diffusion, both the membrane carriers and the volume should be increased while in simple diffusion, increasing only the
volume can speed up the diffusion.

2. The larger value obtained when more glucose carriers were present corresponds to an increase in the rate of glucose
transport. Explain why the rate increased. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Your answer:
The rate increased since there will be more transport proteins present in the membrane, thus, holding more molecules to be
transported along the concentration gradient. It makes the gradient steeper. The results correctly matched my prediction.

3. Explain your prediction for the effect Na+ Cl- might have on glucose transport. In other words, explain why you picked
the choice that you did. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Your answer:
I picked it thinking that they might be correlated and that adding NaCl would decrease the rate since it will be an addition to
the gradient. The results showed otherwise, that glucose transport is independent of NaCl transport since NaCl exhibits
simple diffusion so it doesn't need transporters in order to diffuse fast while glucose transport needs transporters/carriers in
order to increase the diffusion rate.
