Student Professional Development Conference 16’ (SPDC): In the ongoing era, a student without professional skills is like a bird whose wings have been chained down. Throughout our lives we've been asked to ‘think out of the box’, but we've always lacked a path that leads us to thinking unique and out of the box. Student Professional Development Conference-'16 was able to provide the students with that path. After looking at the tremendous response in the conference, it can be said that SPDC India 2016 has added another feather to the cap of ASME and ASME-VIT student chapter. The different competitions like Student Design Competition, Old Guard Oral Presentation and Old Guard Video Presentation expanded the student's professional development capaci- ty. Personal development is a conscious choice to improve one's life to become a better person and to grow as an individual. The only obstacle that stops you from being what you want to be, is the lack of clarity in one's spectre. The confi- dent faces of the people after the conference proved that SPDC assisted them to become better individuals and had given them the confidence to become future entrepreneurs. The Conference was held on the 18th and 19th March, 2016. With the Presenta- tion competitions, SDC and 8 Guest Lectures, SPDC 2016 was home to more than 500 participants. VIT oNive THE ASME VITTELEGRAPR ===“ - Reverse Engineering The competition in today's market forces companies to produce only the best, keeping in mind the need of its customers. Reverse Engineering involves going back to a concept from a prototype. This technique is adopted by various organisations while developing new products or while improving the already existing ones. It is also used to analyse another product: that of a competitor's or a market leader. In this competition, the participant had to prove his/her understanding of fundamental con- cepts as an Engineer. It required the participant to have a systematic approach to analys- ing and reasoning the engineering design/system. The event saw hoards of innovative ideas, key being engineering concepts. - Contraption Have you ever built something that appears strange or unnecessarily compli- cated? If not then discover, design, develop, complicate, convolute and inter- weave. Prove your mettle by unlocking your imagination and building the most complex structures to make the object fly, swing, swirl and travel. The event was a grand success with creativity at its front core. The audiences and judges alike were dazzled with how simple objects can be used to make something so unique. - CAD Modelling CATIA (Computer Aided Three Dimensional Assembly) is a CAD modelling soft- ware with vast capabilities that go beyond the usual software such as AUTO- CAD and SolidWorks. CATIA provides for style and form design, mechanical design, machining, analysis and simulation. With all these capabilities put to- gether it helps in complete product development and analysis. CATIA also pro- vides good rendering, accuracy, surface modelling and file editing features making it a favourite among designers. Major industries such as aerospace, shipbuilding, automobile and architecture use CATIA. Companies as diverse as BMW and Boeing are frequent CATIA users with many of their products designed and analysed using this software. Tesla aims to remain on top with Over-The-Air updates: Tesla Motors rolled out version 8.0 of the operating system for its premium electric vehicles, a major upgrade that CEO Elon Musk has said brings significant enhancements to the car- maker's semi-autonomous Autopilot driving feature. While he wants the company to lead in automated driving technology much as it has in electric propulsion, the latest enhance- ments underscore a sizable edge Tesla already has over conventional carmakers in the abil- ity to change how its vehicles operate via over-the-air modifications. The company calls version 8.0 the “biggest Ul revamp since the launch of Model S." That may be, as it includes enhancements to the touchscreen, navigation system, trip planning, voice command functions and media player upgrades, as well as the changes to Autopilot. The company also added Cabin Overheat Protection, a first of its kind feature to automati- cally regulate the interior temperature of a Tesla vehicle even when tumed off. Musk's company is the clear leader in over-the-air updates, said Colin Bird, senior automo- tive technology analyst for IHS. "These cars are a software platform on wheels. Their ap- proach is much closer to what's happened in consumer electronics.”
