INTRODUCTION

Technology is deeply influencing the lives of many people in the society

nowadays. The presence of technology has reached its maximum of providing
sustainable technology towards quality education through delivery and effective
learning. People apply technology in almost everything they do. They use technology at
work, for extending their abilities, for communication, transportation, learning, scaling
businesses, in school, at home and in so much more. Many establishments use
technology. One of a best example is a school. Having so many students means a lot of
work for the faculty and staffs. But with the help of technology, their works become
lighter.
Students are graded to measure their performance and knowledge in every
grading period. Teachers spend massive time to accurately compute the grades of the
students using their calculators, and, in earlier times, teachers manually solve grades
using paper and pen. The whole process adds heavy workload for teachers in order to
make their evaluation comprehensive and accurate. It can be a problem to the students
they need to wait for a long process and time to monitor their progress and performance.
Student Performance Monitoring is a practice that helps teacher use student
performance data to continually evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and make more
informed instructional decisions. In addition, it is design to determine a students
performance level on skill that the student will be learning that school year. Also, it
establishes the rate of progress the student must make to meet those goals. (Safer and
Fleischman, 2005)
Mobile Student Performance Monitoring is one of the products of technology that
can be useful at school. MSPM is very useful for the students who want to build their
skills and to pass a certain subjects. It lessens the students who got failed and it is made
to assist them to achieve their goals. It keeps the teachers and the students connected,
and teacher can notify their students about their test, exam, assignment or even
announcements with the help of mobile application. This Mobile application is made to
make education more effective and students performance in school grow faster.

The proponents came up with the study to develop the Mobile Student
Performance Monitoring to helps students to analyze their day to day performance,
attendance, achievements etc. With this Mobile application brings teachers and students
closer, so that they can monitor the progress of students and help them improve their
performance. With the help of Mobile Students Performance Monitoring it can be highly
desirable addition to the educational tool-kit, particularly when it can provide better
solutions in computing and recording Students performance. MSPM are also designed to
provide incentives for achievement and assist in identifying problem areas of a student.

Objectives of the Study

The general purpose of this project is to design and develop a Mobile Student
Performance Monitoring to use in monitoring and evaluating the performance of the
student that tells whether the student has gained knowledge in the particular subject and
skills per unit.
Specifically this project aims to do the following:
1 To provide students their performance statistic through mobile application.
2 To provide a module that will automatically compute the students grade.
3 To give ease for the teachers in recording students performance.
4 To notify students for announcements, assignments, deadlines and
upcoming quizzes and exams.
5 To monitor failing students.
6 To display students performance graph and students absences.
7 To provide a module that can display and generate ranking of the students
and class ranking.
8 To evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of the application in terms
of functional suitability, performance efficiency, computability, usability,
reliability, security, maintainability, and portability.

Scope and Limitations

The Mobile Student Performance Monitoring System provides the grades,
absences, performance graphs and records of the students through the mobile application
on android phones. Students can get notification regarding on activities, tests, exams,
assignments and deadlines and can monitor their class schedules. Through this

application, the students can access their grades and performance updates remotely or
without visiting the registrars office. The project provides facilities like online
registration of students thus reducing paperwork and automating the record generation
process in an educational institution.
The teachers can access the system online. Teachers can update student scores,
grades and attendance by entering data one by one or by uploading CSV files. The
teachers can add class schedules, monitor students failing, add course outlines and can
create their desired grading system. The system also served as an automated Class Record
for the teachers in computing students grades and records thereby it would lessen
teachers workload and providing them with added time to attend to other functions. A
Mobile Student Performance Monitoring Application installed in android phones and
tablets, is one way that the student can access their account. For all the users, internet is
needed to get into the system.
The application will run with the minimum required android versions to function
perfectly are API16 Android Version 4.1 (Jellybean) while the target version is API21
android 6.0.

Significance of the study

The proposed system will be beneficial to the following:
Students. Provide updates on the performance of every student and provide the
information on what will be the adjustment on their grades. Students can easily
monitor their progress and make student life more organized, managing activities
that cannot be forgotten.

Teachers. Can make a faster and easier way to compute and update grades of
their student. It is also one way of giving their students a hint on what fields to
focus more in gaining a much higher grade and performance.

School. When the students can monitor their grades, this will minimize the
numbers of dropped outs and the students failing on their subjects. This will give
updates to the students on their performance so the students can be aware about

their performance. School success is defined as ensuring achievement for every

student.

Researchers. The proponents gained more knowledge, developed critical

thinking and problem solving, improved project management and technical skills
in making this project. This also served as training and opportunity for them to
use in the future career.

Future Researchers. This project also provides recommendations for the future
researches that will arise. This is significant for the future researchers because
they will know what they can do to develop this project.
