Audience Profiling

Socio Economic Status

! Socio economic status is an economic and sociological combined total

measure of a person work experience.
! It can also be known as an individual or familys economic and social
position in relation to theirs based on income, education and
occupation.
! The status is often measured as a combination of education, income
and occupation and is commonly conceptualized as social standing of
an individual or group.

! An example of socio economic status is advertising the Henley Royal

Regatta at well paid professionals such as group A because the regatta
is an expensive event. However it doesnt mean other groups wont go,
a lot of different people go.
Psychographics

! Psychographics is the definition of the study and classification of the

people according to their attitudes, aspirations, and other
psychographics criteria especially in market research.

! Psychographics will include finding out certain aspects of peoples lives

such as they're career, family, health and what they do in they're spare
time.
Geodemographic

! Geodemographic is a multivariate statistical classification technique

for discovering whether the individuals of a population fall into
different groups by making comparisons of multiple characteristics.

! Geodemographic is important as it can win or loose an audience. An

example of bad geodemographic would be advertising the Henley
Festival in America, as no one is going to fly to England just to attend
a festival.
Age

- Age is the length of time that a person has lived or a thing has existed.

- Age is a big factor when deciding what something is aimed at. For example
tv shows are on at certain times and on certain channels so that they are
then correctly aimed at the right audience. A tv programme that includes
violent scenes would be aired after 9pm in order for it to be seen by the
correct audience.
Gender

- Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as

differentiated by social and cultural roles and behaviour.

- Most things are aimed at both genders, however some programmes are
aimed more at certain genders. An example of this would be a building
programme, it would be aimed at the group of C2 which includes plumbers,
electricians and carpenters which are mostly going to be a group of men with
some Women.
Sexual Orientation
! Sexual orientation is a person's sexual identity in
relation to the gender to which they are
attracted; the fact of being heterosexual,
homosexual, or bisexual.

! When makeup is advertised on tv, young models

are always the ones to advertise it which makes
the makeup appeal more to Women because
they want to be able to look like that and it is
clear what audience the advert are aiming at.

! Again, when brands are trying to advertise

they're products they need to think clearly
where they put it which is why every advert in a
female magazine is female based and can catch
the attention of Women.
Race or Ethnicity

The term race refers to groups of people who

have differences and similarities in biological
traits deemed by society to be socially significant,
meaning that people treat other people
differently because of them.

Loreal are a good example of advertising multiple

race and ethnicities, for example when they
brought out the new foundation for a wide variety
of skin tones they used a model with a darker skin
tone which reached out to wider audience and
helped to advertise that the foundation was
suitable for lots of ethnicities.
