NOTES 2/10/17 Our Indivisible Revolution Meeting

NOTES
Lively discussion again as we move towards forming who we are and react to whats going on.
Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:
Wake up call inspiring us to return to civic engagement in the democratic process
TV yelling and petition signing no longer enough
We need the ability to listen to people we disagree with media is pushing extremism and
division (it sells)
Remember president was elected by 25% of 14%
Sinking to a lower level is what we are fighting to avoid (i.e. avoiding use of labels
deplorables) its really un-American behavior. Hard on politics , soft on people.
Pressure elected officials to call out their Republican colleagues
Get people used to engaging their members of congress
People disappointed in the Democratic Party moving to center to win and losing touch with
base
Appeal to Republicans respect for the law
Getting involved in Democratic Party (monthly meeting in Beaverton, Precinct Leader)
Get to vote
Get walking lists and bringing new people into the party
Carry the flag, open with decorum take back what it means to be a patriot
Trump supporters (how we communicate with them)
Use fact sheets and use respectful conscious dialogue to convey who we are
Find places where we agree
Address their focus on abusers of the system (any system has abusers stats on that)
Its critical to be studied and informed people are as invested in their beliefs as we are
Realize that not every person can be convinced, be able to let go of the need to satisfy our
anger (that undermines our case/whats right)
Bringing ideas that are fundamentally accepted: universal ideas that are a fabric for our
democracy for a just and peaceful society
Focus on policy
Seek to dialogue with their faith institutions (i.e. Mormons)
Seek to dialogue with non-faith groups (get to know farmers in the area) Grange halls
Actions for the group
Discussion about letter to Wyden on Russia
Demand investigation into Russian influence in our election
First draft of Wyden letter - MADELINE
Look into impeaching Trump advocating for that
Reach out to other Indivisible groups in the Portland area for our work - PATRICK
Get schedule for Bonamici - LAURIE
Google group to be formed MADELINE / PATRICK
Get all elected officials schedules/Townhalls
EAC (independent agency monitoring vote) being disbanded
Redistricting defense against it
Fixing Democratic Party
We need to form an issues committee
David Frum essay (Madeline brought it up re protesting effectively)
Host event in Sherwood for conservatives and progressives to discuss issues not labels/tribes
