    KOTAKINABALU:Ninelocalanglerswererescuedatseabyatouristboataftertheircatamaran
    stalledsome11nauticalmilesfromPulauSuluginwatersoffthecityhere.

    AMalaysianMaritimeEnforcementAgency(MMEA)sourcetoldtheSunwhencontactedthatthe
    fivecrewmen,comprisingfourmenandawoman,whoremainedonthecatamaranwerepickedup
    7.30pmonMondayaftertheyraisedthealertthattheyhadfailedtofixtheengine.

    KotaKinabaluMMEAdirectorMaritimeCommodoreAdamAzizsaidthedoubledeckercatamaran
    named"FatCat"sankonTuesdayafterwaterbegantoseepinovernightasitdrifted.

    "Theagencyreceivedadistressalertat4pmonMondayafterthevesselstalledandapatrolcraft
    wassenttotheposition.However,thecatamaranhaddriftedsometwonauticalmilesaway.

    "By4.35pm,wereceivedacallfromthecatamaranownerthatnineanglersonboardhadbeen
    transferredtoatouristboat.Thecrewdecidedtostaybacktorepairtheengines,"hesaid.

    Adamsaidtheownercalledagainataround5.25pmandrequestedfortheMMEAtoassistin
    rescuingthecrewmembers,whoweredriftinginchoppyseas.

    By7.10pm,hesaidtheKMMemmonwassenttothestrandedcatamaranandthefivecrew
    membersweretakenaboardandbroughtbacktothenavy'sSepanggarbasenearhereby11pm.

    Hesaidallfivecrewmenwereingoodhealthandtheirownerpickedthemup.

    ThefivecrewmemberswereidentifiedasRosmayzalOmar,38,JuwalAgAhmad,58,MohdAzmi
    Madeus,29,ShukurMalinandDesireeRichardMaladau,43.

    Adamsaidtheowner'simmediateactiontoreportthestalledcatamaranwasapositivestepamong
    maritimecommunitiestobesafewhileoutatsea.
