 Mosquitos

More than 3000 species of mosquitoes have been described on a world. Scientists group
species by genus on the basis of the physical characteristics they share. 3000 mosquito
species found in the world are divided among 28 different genera. The genus Aedes contains
some of the worst pests. Many members of the genus Anopheles have the ability to transmit
human malaria.

There are three genera of medical importance:

Morphology

1. Body: small, fragile, 3-6mm long

2. Distinguishing of sexes:

- Antenna: plumose in male, pilose in female

- Palp

- External genitalia

3. Mouthparts : piercing and sucking type.

Egg 1-4 days-> larva (4 stages) 7 days -> pupa 2-3 days adult.

10-14 days total.

Habitat

Larval Habitats of Mosquitoes

Mosquito larvae can be found in numerous habitats. Each habitat produces specific
mosquito species. Habitats can be generally grouped into four types: Running Water,
Transient Water, Permanent Water, or Container.

Mosquitoes and diseases

Annoyance pest: A mosquito bite may induce local dermatitis or even systematic
reaction in sensitive persons.

Parasitic diseases: Malaria and filariasis.

Virus diseases: Japanese encephalitis B, mainly by Aedes and Culex

tritaeniorrhyncus.

Dengue fever and yellow fever.

Control
 Individual protection by site selection for homes, nets or screens, chemical repellents,
etc.

Elimination of breeding places.

Insecticides.

Biological: Genetic control and protection of mosquitoesnatural enemies (bat, dragon

fly, swallow, Gambusia fish, etc.)

The meaning
Lebih dari 3000 jenis dari nyamuk dapat dikenali di seluruh dunia. Ilmuan
mengeleompokkan jenis dari gen berdasar karakter fisik yang dimilikinya. 3000 jenis nyamuk
yang ditemukan di dunia terbagi diantara 28 jenis yang berbeda. Jenis Aedes mengandung
beberapa hama pengganggu. Beberapa anggota dari jenis Anopheles mempunyai kemampuan
untuk menularkan penyakit malaria.

Morfologi :

1. Tubuh : kecil, lemah, panjangnya 3-6 mm

2. Pembeda kelamin :
- Antena : berambut tebal untuk jantan, berambut jarang untuk betina
- Sungut
- Alat kelamin luar
3. Bagian mulut : tipe penusuk dan tipe penghisap.

Telur 1-4 hari-> larva (4 tahap) 7 hari -> pupa 2-3 hari dewasa.

10-14 total hari.

Habitat

Larva nyamuk dapat ditemukan di beberapa habitat. Masing-masing habitat terdapat

spesies tertentu. Habitat ini dikelompokkan menjadi 4 macam:

Air yang mengalir

Air kubangan
Air yang menetap
Kaleng.

Penyakit yang disebabkan oleh nyamuk

Gangguan(gigitan): gigitan nyamuk dapat menyebabkan dermatitis lokal atau reaksi

pada seseorang yang sensitif.

Penyakit parasit : malaria dan filariasis.

Penyakit virus: radang otak Jepang B, terutama Aedes dan Culex tritaeniorrhyncus.

Demam berdarah dan penyakit kuning

Kontrol

Perlindungan individual oleh pemilihan lokasi untuk rumah , jaring atau layar ,
penolak kimia , dll
Penghapusan tempat penangkaran .
 Insektisida .
Biologi : kontrol genetik dan perlindungan dari musuh alami nyamuk (kelelawar, ikan
Gambusia , dll )
