Core Strengths
Customer Partnerships
A. Solar Block
B. Cooling Block:
Solar cooling technologies use solar thermal energy provided through solar
collectors to power thermally driven cooling machines. Cooling demand is rapidly
increasing in many parts of India. This results in a dramatic increase in electricity
demand on hot summer days, which causes an unwanted increase in the use of
fossil energy and furthermore threatens the stability of electricity grids.
The solar hot water generation plant shall consist of 16m2 solar parabolic
concentrator, circular receiver, hot water header, automatic tracking system,
valves and control, etc. The parabolic concentrator shall concentrate the sun
light and generate high temperature hot water. This water will be at high
pressure. The header shall be used as temperature reservoir. The solar
parabolic concentrators shall be tracked automatically with help of an AC drive,
gear motor etc. but the focus shall be fixed at the point of receiver.
A battery of receivers shall be connected to the hot water supply and return
headers. Hot water at 132 C shall be generated by harnessing solar thermal
energy.
The VAM shall supply chilled water at 7 C. This chilled water shall be circulated
through cooling coils in the Air Handling Units (AHUs), over which air shall flow.
In this process, air shall be cooled and used for office air-conditioning whereas
chilled water shall be heated to 12 C and returned to the VAM.
The balance cooling load shall be met with centralized electrical chillers. These
chillers shall also cater to the air-conditioning requirement when maximum solar
radiation will not be available. Thus, we propose to integrate the centralized
electrical chillers with the VAM. Thereby, the electrical chillers shall cater to the
air-conditioning load even during cloudy / unfavorable local weather conditions.
The control logic shall allow the operation of electrical chiller only when there is
a shortfall in the solar thermal energy.
This integrated system offers the advantage of optimizing the use of electricity
and maximizing the use of clean, renewable solar thermal energy, while
meeting the required cooling load.
Scope of Supply :
Solar Reflectors with PLC based tracking system harness solar energy
more efficiently compared to non tracking solar collectors and generate Hot
Water at 130-140 C. As a result more efficient VAM with a COP of 1.1.
This results in saving in cost of VAM & space requirements in plant room.
Requires smaller size Cooling Tower thus saving the water and power
requirement. Smaller Condenser water pumps thus saving on running cost
of pump.
Green Technology.
Eligible for credits in factory Green Building ratings & certification
Operating cost savings.
80 % depreciation available in the first year itself on the investment made
on Solar Parabolic Concentrators and VAM.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy provides a subsidy of Rs 86,400
per dish on investment in solar system.
E TUBE METALLURGY:
The above datasheet is for one VAM. The capacity and heat requirement are applicable
for fully insulated machines. The Electrical consumption is approximate and can vary
reasonably during detailing. The dimensions and weights are subject to detail engineering
o o
variations. Plant room temperature should be from +5 C to +45 C.

VAM System
Performance trials will be carried out to demonstrate the capacities of the system
within 15 days of commissioning of the system at the available load. In case the
load or rated utilities are not available, the unit will be deemed as handed over
after the performance trials are taken on the available parameters.
Once the inputs mentioned in above section are made available to Thermax for a
period not less than 72 hours,
Rated Cooling capacity under steady load as mentioned in the VAM technical
parameters at the battery limits of chilled water pipeline.
The flow rates shall be measured using theoretical calculations
The temperatures shall be measured using the calibrated temperature sensors
installed in the line.
Notes :
2. Avoid stagnant water in the VAM for longer duration. Incase of more than 1
day stoppage, it is recommended to circulate the water for about 30 minutes
everyday. Incase the stoppage is for a longer duration, it is recommended to
drain the water from the VAM and keep the VAM in dry condition.
