Program Overview
Goals
1. Increase awareness about SCAP with partner and potential partners, with specific emphasis on helping
partners get started
2. Support our scholars career development through a skill building experience, including networking with
field leaders, presentation skills, communication skills, leadership & event management opportunities

Apprenticeship Program Core Work (80%)
Immersion and Onboarding
In person immersion and training with SCAP team (review KPIs, train on iPad tool, reimbursement
process and timing, etc.)
Virtual training and immersion with ASU Online team (financial aid, support network, etc.)
Meet local ASU Alumni chapter lead
Meet local Starbucks recruiter
Review tools, deliverables and other materials with SCAP manager
Introduction note to store managers and district managers with calendar

Weekly Activities
Store Office Hours 3 times per week, track partner interest through SCAP iPad Tool

OPTION ONE: RECRUITING
Leverage SCAP as an attraction tool to increase candidate interest in Starbucks as an employer of choice.
Apprentice supports local recruiter and/or hiring managers in hiring activities
Apprentice brings SCAP collateral and shares with candidates about SCAP at events
Apprentice posts SCAP Posters at relevant organizations
o Target organizations that may have received Opportunity Youth grants from Starbucks
o Also consider organizations focused on Opportunity Youth, including high schools, nonprofits, and workforce
development organizations.

OPTION TWO: PARTNER ENGAGEMENT


Leverage SCAP to increase partner engagement in market
Apprentice supports community service lead in any existing community service activities as a resource,
and may create new Community Service activity with Opportunity Youth focused organization
o Leverages Community Service toolkit and resources from Community Team
Test new Scholar Recognition Materials (postcards) and share feedback with SCAP team
Share Partner stories using the Story Submission Tool on the Hub, #tobeincollege in social media and
with local leaders to encourage other partners

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SCAP Manager

Recruits, selects, and manages apprenticeship partners


Creates immersion and onboarding plan, including goal setting conversations in week one
Sets performance expectations and manages day to day activities
Conducts weekly 1:1s and apprentice team meetings
Conducts midpoint performance check-in and final evaluation
Stays connected with field leaders, sharing weekly status updates
Stays connected with Mentor and Buddy to solicit feedback
Measures success of program and works with SCAP leadership team on possibilities for program
expansion

Mentor
Meet weekly for duration of the 7-week program
Helps connect apprentices with field leaders and navigate field leadership as needed
Provides feedback to SCAP manager on Optional focus area (Partner Engagement or Recruiting)
Provides feedback to SCAP manager on district coverage for each apprentice
Confirms whether a regional office is available and easily accessible for apprentices
Act as a confidential advisor and suggestions actions. Provide honest and constructive feedback
Helps apprentice prepare for presentation and attends the presentation in week seven if possible

Buddy
Meet weekly for duration of the 7-week program

ASU Online Team
ASU SCAP team connects in first week with all apprentices, trains on SCAP content,
including:
o Financial Aid and Reimbursement process
o Support Network (Success Coach, Academic Advisor, Enrollment Coach, etc.)

ASU Alumni Chapter Lead


Connects with apprentice at beginning of program and creates plan on how to best engage
current scholars

Recruiter
