HowhaveIdevelopedthiscompetencyduringthiscourseorprofessionalseminar/fieldexperience?

Creating links and connections with students was an important and prominent part of my stage. In

order
to create meaningful relationships with students, it is important that a teacher considers their

approach and ensures it is one that encourages interpretation and the creation of meaningful links on
behalf

of the students. During my second field experience, students were mainly focusing on article

writing in order to prepare for their final English exam. Writing an article is a task that often requires

personal

reflection and making connections to ones world and the society/culture in which they live.
Therefore,
this unit gave me the opportunity to make connections for the students through article writing.
Students were asked to read a variety of different articles and discuss the issues that were present in

these
texts. Topics such as student strikes and social media were reflected on and discussed; an activity
which
ultimately resulted in the students developing an opinion and being able to write about it.

Through the course of my second field experience, I feel I have developed the second competency to the

best
of my ability. I have communicated professionally with students and members of the school staff,

both written and orally. In the classroom, when engaging with students during oral quizzes, I have
corrected

their grammar and vocabulary consistently and respectfully. As I progress and learn in my field

experience, I continue to work on improving my communication skills both written and orally; and express

myself

in a professional way, as expected by a teaching professional.

Throughout my second field experience, myself and the other student teacher have planned and acted

out lessons in team teaching situations that have allowed us to develop this competency. I have

organized engaging and interactive lessons that have allowed students to actively participate in learning
activities.

These activities involved students getting into groups and working together in order to fully

grasp and understand the material. Myself and my fellow student teacher have facilitated these activities

(such as a group Jeopardy game in which the questions are related to class material), which promote

group
cooperation and better understanding of class material.

Throughout my second field experience, I was given several opportunities to supervise and organize a

class
with my fellow student teacher. At the beginning of every class, we provided students with a daily

agenda, which prepares the students for the activities and events for that day. Moreover, before
beginning

each learning activity, we provided the students with detailed instructions to eliminate most

confusion. There were some challenges, however. There were some students who disrupted the class,

which

somewhat prevented the smooth running of regular classroom activities. My partner and I
addressed
the situation as best we could, however I aim to improve on my assertiveness as I work to
become a teacher.

Team teaching are co-lesson planning are tasks that I continue to grow familiar with as I continue on in

my field experiences. During my second field experience, I team taught most of the class lessons with the

other student teacher I was working with, or my cooperating teacher. Team teaching required both of us
to reflect on and consider our strengths and weaknesses, and work together on improving what needed

be worked on. Both myself and the other student teacher also co-created a lesson plan together.
to

Cooperating and organizing this project together gave us the opportunity to reflect on our students and

what
their needs would be, and working together in order to make sure these students achieve their goals
in
the classroom. After executing the lesson, we worked together to improve certain things that did not go

as
smoothly as we would have liked, and gave each other feedback on what we can work on.

Throughout

my field experience, I feel I have improved on and developed this competency the most.
However,
it is also one I feel I will need to constantly be working on for the rest of my academic career.

During my time at Marymount Academy, my partner and I were given many opportunities to be

responsible
for a classroom, and these opportunities have shown me the dos and don'ts when managing
a class. When executing a lesson individually, my partner and I had to treat all strudents fairly and ensure

they
were all receiving adequate help and attention. In terms of our lesson plan, our reasoning for our
strategies was well-founded and supported through QEP documentation. Ultimately, I demonstrated

sufficient responsibility of a classroom and proved I can be entrusted with students, while being able to
provide reasons for my actions and choices in the classroom.
