Task 3.1
T.O. List
Reduced level excavation is also known as top soil removal. Top soil should be removed
from the ground to be covered by a building, to a depth sufficient to prevent later growth.
Tree and bush roots that might encourage later growth and that might affect the stability of
the building so they must be removed. The depth of top soil varies and on some sites it may
be necessary to remove 300 mm or more top soil.
According to NRM 2 it measured under the Excavation and filling work section. The item or
work to be measured is Excavation, commencing level stated if not original ground level and
the unit of measurement is meter cube and it comes under bulk excavation and the depth is
varying in 3 different depths according to NRM 2.
= 13.50 m3
Disposal
The excavated material should be removed from the site. According to NRM 2 its coming
under the Excavation and filling work section as Disposal, the unit of measure is as item and
its splitting into 2 sections as Ground water and Excavated material off site.
Trench Excavation
Before starting the trench excavation measurement we must know the girths of the given
building foundation or wall, there are 3 types of girth can be identified in a building they are
Internal Girth, Mean Girth (Centre line), External Girth.
When we measure mean girth of a building we must consider the foundation and wall
thickness. And also we must adjust the T Junctions for an accurate measurement therefore
we need to count the t junctions for make the relevant adjustments. When cross walls or
partitions or veranda walls join with main wall, the centre line length gets reduced by half of
breadth for each junction. Such junction or joints are studied carefully while calculating total
centre line length.
Trench excavation also coming under the Excavation and filling work section and the item or
work to be measured is Excavation, commencing level stated if not original ground level and
the unit of measurement is meter cube and its coming under foundation excavation and the
depth is varying in 3 different depths according to NRM 2.
Girth Calculation
L= 2/15000 30000mm
W = 2/6000 12000mm
External Girth 42000 mm
Deduct Corners:

4/2/ 2 /225 900mm
Deduct Corners:

4/2/ 2 /225 900mm
After calculating the mean girth we can measure the trench excavation as follows
Disposal
The excavated material should be removed from the site. According to NRM 2 its coming
under the Excavation and filling work section as Disposal, the unit of measure is as item and
its splitting into 2 sections as Ground water and Excavated material off site.
Concrete foundation
It also knows as Bed Concrete which is laid against earth surface to gain a plain platform for
the foundation.A mass concrete surface bed is the un-reinforced slab that is supported by the
ground, unlike a suspended slab. It can be on fill, which should not exceed 600mm in
thickness. The formation may be shaped for thickenings and covered with hardcore and sand
bedding or a layer of blinding concrete. It may also need a sheet plastics damp proof
membrane, depending on site conditions and building occupancy.
This is coming under the In-situ concrete work section, the item or work to be measured is
Horizontal work, the unit of measurement is meter cube and thickness is 300mm or
>300mm, and the location also may stated as in blinding or structures or staircase according
to NRM 2.
According to NRM 2 it measured under the Masonry section. The item or work to be
measured is Walls and the unit of measurement is meter squired and it comes under
Brickwork.
