Highway is one of the infrastructure which will accelerate the growth and development of an area and
also expose the social relations, economic and culture. Then the highway is much require by the society to
implement their daily activities. As the running time and development process, the hardener layers of road
construction will be reduce. The reduced level of service is characterized by damage of the harder layers of the
road. One component of the physical environment that influence the quality of service and road construction
condition is the quality of ground geophysics. The Quality of ground geophysical as a foundation and or support
road construction affects the quality of service and the current condition of the road construction segment also
occurs in Polisi Militer Road-Kejora Road which located in the Oebufu Village Oebobo District of Kupang City,
the road conditions are the object of this study. The Polisi Militer Road Kejora Road is a strategic alternative
road that connects the three (3) main street in the Kupang city. In the visual condition of the soil on the sides of
the Polisi Militer Road- Kejora Road is a land with expansive clay soils, it looks at the transition weather of the
rainy season to dry season when the soil during the dry season is marked by shrinkage cracks, while the rainy
season, soil expands and changes the volume of soil.Geophysical characteristic of the soil resulted in a
breakdown of construction is marked by surging due to collapsed, cracked, and the subsequent risk of resulting
in potholes. The Conditions of ground geophysical quality base / subgrade road caused low value of the soil
support capability. The issues raised in this study is the quality factor of the ground geophysical caused the
damage of Polisi Military Road Kejora Road, the extent of damage and mitigation techniques damage suffered
by the Polisi Military Road Kejora Road. This study aimed to identify factors geophysical ground quality,
determine the level of damage suffered by the Polisi Militer Road Kejora Road. Soil samples in this study is a
whole segment of the research object is Polisi Militer Road-Kejora Road which located in the Oebufu Village
Oebobo District. Soil samples in this study is homogeneous. Sampling of the many ways proposive by the
dominant type of damage is on the road.Soil samples were taken soil samples and undisturbed soil samples into
effectively disrupted by 50 cm, and the sampling point 5 (five) points. Techniques of data analysis in this
study using quantitative descriptive approach and laboratory testing, thus yielding information on the condition
of the quality of ground geophysical on Polisi Military Road-Kejora Road is the physically and mechanically
properties of the soil base / subgrade that road is the support capability of land, Soaked CBR , plasticity index
etc.The results of research and laboratory testing indicate the nature of the physical characteristics of soil /
Subgrade in Polisi Militer Road- Kejora Road are organic clay type and also expansive based on specific gravity
and water content, poorly graded with a percentage of average soil grain pass # 200 (0.075 mm) 88.28%> 35% of
assessment as the basis of moderate to poor soil that is not suitable for use as road Subgrade (AASHTO and
USCS Classification), the average specific gravity of 2.59, based on the presentation of items and the value of PI
(Plasticity Index) 26 , 94% > 30%, Liquid Limit (LL) 53.83%> 22% and plastic limit (PL) 26.90% > 25% then
the land base in the segment of Polisi Militer Road Kejora Road in the category of organic clay with high
plasticity properties so it is likely to expand and contract very high and enter the land of A-7-6. Based on the
testing of mechanical properties of soil such roads can not be used as Subgrade way it is because the value of
laboratory Soaked CBR values showed 0.69% < 5% and the value of DDT (Land Capability) of 1.38 with the
presentation of the development of 8.40% . Amount of rainfall that occurred in the study area varies, based on
rainfall analysis shows that the areas of research include climate type F (dry). From the results of research
conducted by the writer, the writer offers the response to the damage that occurs in the case of Polisi Militer Road
Kejora Road is through repairing tecnically.
