2016-2017 NYC Service Fellowship Program

Position Description

The mission of NYC Service is to promote volunteerism, engage New Yorkers in service, build volunteer
capacity and mobilize the power of volunteers and service year members to impact New York Citys
greatest needs.

Each Service Fellow reports to a direct supervisor, but also works with other members of the NYC
Service leadership team and staff on a daily basis.

Service Fellows Volunteer Development Coordinator

One NYC Service Fellow will serve as coordinator for volunteer development programs, reporting to the
Volunteer Strategy & Development Director and working closely with three NYC VISTA Members. Key
responsibilities include the following:

Serve as coordinator for volunteer development programs


Spearheading implementation of new volunteer development programs, coordinating closely
with City agency and community-based organization (CBO) partners.
Spearheading implementation of current volunteer development programs and overseeing the
operationalization of new volunteer strategy - includes NYC Youth Leadership Councils (working
closely with two VISTA members), Emergency Preparedness, Mentoring, and Community Health
Hubs.
Coordinating annual snow removal pilot, including the identification of those neighborhoods
most vulnerable in extreme snow conditions, engagement and training of nonprofit partners,
and management of activation during times of extreme snow.
Serving as coordinator for neighborhood-based programs to increase volunteer numbers
throughout New York City, focusing specifically on the outer boroughs (working closely with one
VISTA member).
Developing outreach lists and coordinating with City agencies, nonprofit organizations, and
other partners to collect annual Citywide volunteer data for NYC Services annual Volunteers
Count report.
Supporting the design and coordinating the maintenance of output and outcome tracking
systems for volunteer development programs, including analyzing results.
Advance NYC Service mission, values, and goals

Represent NYC Service at select events.


Assist with the provision of monthly content for social media platforms and the NYC Service e-
newsletter.
Be available on select weekends and on select evenings throughout the Fellowship for projects.
Support City initiatives as needed, including but not limited to possible emergency response
(e.g. evacuation shelters, etc.).
Provide project support with other service activities and programs, as needed.

Skills

Bachelors Degree (Minimum)


Commitment to service year programs and volunteerism (service year alumni a plus)
Capable of managing against goals and working under tight deadlines
Strong written and oral communicator
Experience in relationship management
Experience with project management
Experience creating successful collaboration among diverse stakeholders using indirect authority
Strong computer skills
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
Ability to work beyond traditional working hours and schedules
Bilingual abilities a plus
