Mt Albert Upgrade Underway

Local residents will be pleased to know that the
upgrade for Mt Albert town centre is underway.
Enabling works are in progress and the main
construction works will start soon. Albert-Eden Local
board is working closely with Auckland Council and
Auckland Transport having invested $6.5 million into
the project. The long-awaited upgrade will revitalise the
heart of the town centre creating a safer and more
pleasant place for people to live and work. The new
streetscape design will acknowledge the past and the
significant history of the suburb while creating a legacy
for the future.

The new pedestrian link bridge has already made a

positive impact on the community and Albert-Eden
board chair Peter Haynes is delighted that construction
on the upgrade is starting soon. Once the overall
upgrade is complete, residents and visitors will be able
to enjoy the many benefits of the much-improved town
centre.
Anne Duncan echoed those sentiments when she said:
The upgrade is very much needed and is far too long
overdue. Once its all in place it will give a huge boost to
the neighbourhood.
Improvements to the area include:
Wider footpaths
Cycle lanes
More trees and landscaped garden areas
Better lighting and signage
Outside seating & new street furniture
A new pedestrian crossing

Waterview Connection Update
After five years of diversions and distractions The Waterview
Connection is nearly complete. The official finish date is yet to
be released but its definitely set for April. The $1.4 billion dollar
construction is New Zealands largest and most ambitious road
projects undertaken and is set to make life a lot easier for
everyone who plans to travel within the area.
The main aim of the new road network is to connect the
southwestern and northwestern motorways and create a
western ring road around the city. This will reduce dependence
on SH1 and on the Harbour Bridge. It will also provide a direct
route from the CBD to the airport. Half of the new motorway is
underground and the two tunnels will carry three lanes of
traffic each.
This major project began back in 2012 taking five years to
complete.

Mt Albert By-Election
February 25 is the date set for the Mt Albert by-election
where a new local member of parliament will be voted
in. Make sure you are correctly enrolled to be able to
vote on the day. If you are on the current general
electoral roll in the Mt Albert electorate then you can
vote. Voting options are available for all eligible voters,
no matter where you are on the day.
For those of you who are unable to vote due to sickness,
infirmity or disability you can seek help. Contact the Returning
Officer on 095201297 or email mtalbert@elections.govt.nz for
assistance. Some of the voting places in the area include
Gladstone Primary, Marist College, Mt Albert Methodist
Church, Mt Albert Presbyterian Church, Mt Albert Primary
School, Owairaka District School Hall and Rossgrove Chapel
which will all be open between 9am 7pm on Election Day.
