DO NOT LOSE THIS PAPER! IT MUST BE TURNED IN WITH YOUR PROJECT!

Assigned: 11/4
Due: Wednesday 11/30/2016
Worth: 40 points

EQ: How can we understand Earths dynamic weather and climate patterns and the impact they
have on society?

Project Description:
Earth has a variety of weather patterns that can sometimes evolve into severe weather systems.
Using an example of a severe weather system found in a movie, create a model that represents
the weather system. Some examples might include the tornado from The Wizard of Oz,
tornadoes from Twister, a lightning storm from Frankenstein, a blizzard from The Grey, or a
hurricane from the Day after Tomorrow. With your model, your project needs to include and
explanation of the weather phenomenon and how that particular weather system can impact
society.

Other possible weather systems: drought, dust storms, floods, heat waves, ice storms

Materials: You may use whatever materials you have available to create your model. If you
need large pieces of poster paper, ask your teacher. Mr. Ellsworth can also provide you with
cardboard.

Project Requirements:
1. Model representing weather system.
2. Description and explanation of weather system including: how the weather system is formed,
what it looks like, how it is measured, and how it can be predicted.
3. Description and explanation of how that weather system can impact society. This description
and explanation can/should include how much the damage of the storm could cost, how many
people could lose their lives, how it affects the environment, if it can cause pollution, and other
impacts.
