REJ 525 Relay Model

The relay type model contains all important elements of the actual relay. However, in the application of
the relay, please consider the following:

1. The phase discontinuity unit has been modelled with three elements. These are logic (RelLogdip),
starter (RelFdetect) and timer (RelTimer) elements respectively. It is settable from 10% to 100%
though the relay model shows it is settable from 10A to 100A. In other words, setting this element
to say a value of 20 A, represents a setting of 20%. The time overcurrent plot will not show this
element as it is set to a percentage unbalance value and not current. This was considered a better
approach than to model this functionality with an overcurrent element.
2. The real relay phase discontinuity functionality includes a block that will stop a trip from
occurring when the maximum phase current is less than 10% of the relay nominal current. The
nominal current is however a settable value of either 1A or 5A. It is therefore required to select the
DIP switches y1A and y5A to select either a 1A or 5A nominal current as is applicable. The
default settings will always be for a 1A relay with y1A switched on and y5A switched off.
3. The phase discontinuity logic block also includes a SGB2 DIP switch. This will be switched off
by default. It could be used for externally blocking the phase discontinuity functionality.
4. The relay output logic model would have required more than the maximum allowable number of
inputs if DIP switches were used to select any of the trip or start signals to be able to activate to
activate any of the output signals by DIP switch selection. A simple alternative was adopted with
all the element trip outputs activating the trip outputs PO1 and PO2 and all start outputs activate
the alarm outputs SO1 and SO2. If the user wants to use the relay in a more sophisticated scheme
where this scenario would not be correct, he should simply copy the output logic from the relay
type model into the element and make changes in output model in the element. This would then
replace the logic in the relay element model.
5. The REJ 525 relay has a settable functionality to block the IDMT elements when the respective
High-Set elements pick up. This option was not made available as it is not considered of any real
value for simulation purposes.
6. Note that the relay must be set in the measuring unit if it is 1 A or a 5 A device.
7. The REJ 525 relay has a functionality to double start values of I>> elements under inrush
conditions. This could not be modelled as the set value of I> is required in the logic to enable such
functionality.
