Writing Assignment #4--Describe the specific

manner in which evaluation of behavior (Level


Three) evaluation of results (Level Four) is
conducted in your adult education setting.
Examples of evaluation forms/materials that are
used to evaluate behavior and/or results may be
included. This assignment should be no more
than 4 pages long not including any attachments.
It is due by midnight, Saturday, February 4,

JamesKirkpatrick(Kirkpatrick,2016)definestheselevelsas:
Level3:Behavior:Thedegreetowhichparticipantsapplywhattheylearnedduring
trainingwhentheyarebackonthejob.
Level4:Results:Thedegreetowhichtargetedoutcomesoccurasaresultofthe
trainingandthesupportandaccountabilitypackage.

Itisverydifficulttowriteaboutthistwolevels.ItisverydifficultbecauseIamthedirector
(principal)ofalargeadultdistanceschool,allwehavedoneoverthepast20yearshereat
ISEAiswhatHaroldStolovitch(HaroldStolovitch,2011)callsTellandtest.Wehave
beengivinginformationtoourstudentsandthenaskingthemquestionsthatgetansweredat
theendofthecourse;oncetheyanswercorrectlyatleast60%ofthemwegivethema
certificateandthatsall.

In2007theMinistryofEducationstartedacurriculumreform,theytransformedouralmost
noexistentcurriculaintoaCompetencyCurriculum.Thereisasayingthatgoodintentions
pave the way to hell; even though the competency model is a good idea, its
implementationhasbeenveryhardbecausetherewasnopriortraining.Fromoneschool
yeartoanothersuddenlyteachersandstudentshadtostartusingthisenormousdocuments.

A.V.Kellyusedtomockthisgreatbooks(Kelly,2009)sayingthatyouliterallycouldask
pass me the curriculum and they would hand you this enormous book. It was what
happenedtoourteachers.Theydidnotknowwhattodowiththis400pagedocuments,
each course has about 6 to 8 competencies; like 30 or more learning outcomes and
hundredsofpagecontents.
Kirkpatricktellsusaboutcriticalbehaviors,somethingverygoodwhenteachingadults,
providedwecanredesignourcurriculaandadaptittothecompetencymodel.Themain
issuehereishowtoreinforcewhenyouhave10thousandstudentsscatteredalloverthe
country.WehavecomeupwithacoachingmodelcalledKumool.ThisisawordinMayan
languagethattranslateslikebrotherbutissomethingcloser,weareencouragingstudents
tofindaKumoolatwork,athomeorwithhisherownfriends,thatwouldatthesame
time foster accountability; like J. Kirkpatrick says: Better methods of monitoring
performanceincludeobservationandworkreview.P73Wethinkthatpeercoachingcan
help.

Asforlevel4Iwouldliketowritetwomorepages,butwithmuchshameIhavetoadmit
thatwedonotdoLevel4evaluation.This2017wearepreparingalongitudinalstudythat
willlast4years,wewilltakeagroupofstudentsthatstartsfirstyearandthenfollowthem
untiloneyearaftergraduationtoseewhathappens,butrightnowwehavenone.
