Wiki Project

Overview

Your task for your individual project is to conceptualise, write and design (set up) a
wiki on one of the two following paper topics:

• Global Perspectives on E-learning

• Global Educational Challenges and E-learning

Your individual wiki project will account for 30% of your final mark for the paper.

Finding a focus

The point of the wiki book is to help you meet, in a creative way, Learning Outcomes
(LOs) 1-4, by developing a deeper understanding of one of the topics of study in this
paper; by reading, searching and synthesising more information related to
contemporary e-learning theory and practice; and by contributing knowledge and
expertise to a professional learning community through sharing your knowledge
openly in a wiki space.

The content and format of what you produce is largely up to you, although your
individual tutor will be on hand to advise. Please keep the main chapter to a
maximum of 3500 words, including any references.

You can start by finding a focus for your wiki project. To help you find a focus for this
work, some possible options could include:

• Compare e-learning practice in a particular context in two or more countries

and look for common patterns and key differences.
Dr Panos Vlachopoulos

• Examine the ‘quality assurance’ process in setting up e-learning programmes

and make recommendations for improvements.

Remember these are just a few ideas, and in determining the particular angle you
might take please consider carefully what would be most relevant for you.

Please note that whatever you decide to work on for your individual project, it is
important that your wiki project is implemented online in a designated wiki space
and that includes dynamic content such as images, video and audio materials on the
top of the written text. Your tutor will be able to advise here.

Proposal

Once you feel you have found a relevant focus and angle for your wiki, and know
what this will involve producing, your next step will be to describe your plans and the
rationale for them in a short proposal.

General format

Your proposal should be no more than 350 words long. It should provide a brief
overview of the context and focus for your individual project, indicate what you will be
producing, and describe and justify the sections (outline).

Submission date and procedures

Using the appropriate electronic submission box, you should submit your proposal to
your tutor by May 30 at the latest.

However, please note that you are welcome to submit your individual project
proposal to your tutor as early in the paper as you would like.

Assessment criteria

Your work for the individual wiki project will be assessed to give you a final mark out
of 30%. As the style and format of each wiki will depend upon your own chosen
focus, the following criteria relating to the common attributes of each (marks
allocations are provided in brackets):

Presentation (10%)

1. visual aids (5%) – balance between text and dynamic content, appealing
layout, distraction-free, appropriate font size
2. structure (5%) - clarity of goals, organization, logical progression, good flow

Content (20%)
Dr Panos Vlachopoulos
