Argument essay:

CHILDREN

The population of the world is getting bigger and bigger due to the need of
people to have babies. Most people want to have babies, they even worry
about whether they will be able to have any children, but it is interesting
that some of them do not like to have children. Although a minority of
people see children as a burden financially and psychologically, and do not
want to bring children to a world full of uncertainty, danger and chaos,
having children brings happiness and meaning to ones life and it is in human
nature to procreate.

To begin with, we cannot deny that children bring happiness and meaning to
our lives. Maybe we cannot know this before we have children, but all the
same, we hear about that happiness from our parents. I think having a baby
is similar to having an aim in our lives. Most of us have targets in life such as
graduating from university, doing a masters or doing academic career
because reaching these targets will satisfy ourselves and living will be more
meaningful. Raising a child can be an aim like these, because bringing up a
human being from our own blood and flesh, and sacrificing our own will and
desires for his good will be more satisfactory than anything. Thus, it is
impossible to see our child as a financial and psychological burden since we
do not think he is different from us. On the contrary, we would have fun
giving him everything he needs.
Secondly, it is instinctive to procreate, forming a new living being from our
own genes. It is in human nature and we cannot prevent the urge to have a
baby because it is in our hormonal system and nature. Some people assert
that it is selfish to bring children to a world full of uncertainty, danger and
chaos but this world is created for humans to live and we have to procreate,
continue our daily lives. The real selfishness is getting afraid of losing our
comfort for having a baby.

Taking everything into account, having a baby must be enjoyable and must
bring happiness to our lives although we have to sacrifice from ourselves.
They will be a part of our bodies and we will not regret bringing them to this
world.

Argument Essay:

CHILDREN

There are many ways for people to be happy. Some people are happy
maintaining successful business affairs, some of them are happy having big
amounts of money and many of them are happy bringing up their children.
In my opinion, children are the ultimate bliss in our lives and if I reach the
suitable age for marriage; I really want to have at least two children. Not
only me but also many people plan to have children of their own as they
add beauty to our lives.

To begin with, children bring happiness and meaning to your life. Your child belongs to you, and
you belong to him. You know he is a piece of you. If you are a mother, you can easily consider
how important it is to see a part of you alive, especially after carrying him for nine months inside
you. Watching them, we naturally become happy and begin to laugh with them with a great
love. They are the most beautiful, the best and the most meaningful part of life for us.

Then, we can say that they are our insurance for our old age. It is commonplace to see many old
people without children living lonely or unhappy lives in poverty. Those people are the people
who have not chosen to have children or those who have always wanted but not had the
chance to have them. There are many famous people like that such as Emel Sayin and our prime
minister and his wife, Rahsan and Bulent Ecevit. We notice that they are very lonely and
unhappy now without any children. When we have children, we do not get anxious about our life
to continue and our belongings to get wasted. We know that our generation will continue too, by
means of our children.

To sum up, many people are happy to have children and many of them are going to be happy to
have them as children not only bring happiness and meaning to our lives and are our insurance
but they also help our generation to continue. They mean so much for us as well since they are
worth everything in life.

Argument essay:

HAVING CHILDREN OR NOT?

Most people want to get married and have children. Perhaps they want to leave a trace or
offspring after them, so that they become somehow immortal. And it is commonly said that
children are the ultimate bliss in our lives. Although many people agree with this statement, to
my mind, it is not true.

Firstly, it is always claimed that having children brings happiness and meaning to ones life. To
raise them well becomes an ideal for parents. However, I think that although this may be true,
children are also a financial and psychological burden for parents. To have children is to have
responsibility. Parents spend all their time and money on their children, for their education,
clothing and other needs, and do not have much time or money left for themselves.

Secondly, many people assert that it is in human nature to procreate and to see a part of them
continue to live. However, I do not believe that it is necessarily instinctive. There are a lot of
people who do not have any children and they do not have a tendency to see a part of them
continue to live. I think having children for this reason is very old-fashioned. We can have other
accomplishments in life for our name or fame continue.

Finally, it is commonly stated that children are our insurance for our old age and that when we
get older they will take care of us. Although there are many people who think so, I believe that
they are no guarantee against loneliness in old age. Usually children, whether they are married or
not, leave their homes. Besides, it is very selfish to have children for insurance. If you have a
child, you have to accept the fact that he/she is also an individual and has his/her own needs, and
will eventually have his/her own life separate from yours.
To sum up, for most people it might be the biggest happiness to have children. However, I firmly
believe that to have children is not everything in life. People can also live full and accomplished
lives without children.

Argument essay:

NEW RESTRICTIONS

In life, people pass through different phases. They are born into a family, and then they
grow up and reach puberty. After puberty, they are considered adults. At this time, the
sociological burden becomes heavier and new responsibilities are added to a persons burden.
Graduating from a good university, finding a job, getting married and having children are some
of these expectations. Most people consider these expectations especially having children
reasonable and a source of happiness. However, it is my opinion that children are far away from
being the ultimate bliss in our lives; on the contrary, they bring about more responsibilities and
restrictions.

Some people claim that children bring happiness and meaning to ones life. But people
also have aims, pleasures and hobbies that contribute to their happiness. Therefore, we do not
need children to achieve happiness. Also, in my opinion, children are a burden for the family.
Once you give birth to babies, you must do everything to raise them. You must pay for new
clothes, nannies, expensive schools, etc. Since you spend all your money on your children, you
do not have enough financial resources to do something for yourself.

Children restrict the parents. Since you are always busy with your kids and their
problems, you do not have enough time to be with your friends or to do things that give pleasure
to you. For instance, you cannot always go out with your spouse or you cannot easily go to the
theater, opera or ballet because children are not allowed. If you are tired or depressed, you will
not have the right to spend time alone because you are a parent.

It has been maintained that procreation is instinctive and seeing a part of us continue to
live is important. However, it is my contention that bringing children to a world full of
uncertainty and danger just to satisfy our own desires is a bit selfish. Today there are lots of
dangerous events in the world and we do not know what will happen in the future. A war that
will destroy most of the world, a nuclear bomb, threat of global warming and radiation are some
possible things that our new generation will have to cope with.

Some people advocate that children are our insurance for our old age. This idea might
be true in traditional families, but there are no more traditional families today. Now you rear
children with lots of difficulty, and then they get married and leave you. I mean kids are no
guarantee against loneliness.

In conclusion, having children brings lots of responsibilities, restrictions and problems.

Also bringing children to a world that is full of chaos will also be bad and depressing for kids. In
my opinion, having children of our own is not necessary for our happiness.

Argument Essay:
ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

There has been a controversy between animal rights supporters and scientists
about whether it is right to use animals in experimental research. Also, it is very
debatable whether using animals for such research results in finding a cure for
diseases. From my point of view, if there are no other alternatives, and if it
is possible that this will contribute to science, animals may be used for
experimental research.

Although the animal rights activists claim that people and animals are equal and
thus they should be treated equally, I think that people and animals cannot be seen
equal, and therefore the death of an animal cannot be the same thing as the death
of a person. For that reason, causing animals to die for science, for the sake of
saving human lives, may be considered ethical to some extent if it will contribute to
the advancement of science and will be to the benefit of humanity in general.

Furthermore, animal rights supporters label scientists as cruel for causing animals
to die in medical experiments, while they do not oppose the people, mostly
farmers, who kill animals for food, even though they know that 99% of animals
deaths is caused by farmers while only a small percentage, i.e. 1% is caused by
scientists. The underlying reason for that is they find scientists easier to attack and
cannot deal with farmers who are organized and strong.

Another basic argument of animal rights defenders is that people and animals are
different genetically and therefore it is useless to use animals in experiments to see
the effects of some substances on people. They claim that it will make no good to
use animals in experiments because they are too different to be compared to
people. Some of them even assert that it is better to use people directly as they
think that the results of experiments on animals cannot be valid and reliable as long
as the same observation has not been done on man also. However, these people
cannot foresee the disastrous results of such a practice. Many people are likely to
die until a healthy result is obtained.

People and animals may not be the same, but to some degree there are similarities
which can at least give scientists an idea about their experiments. From this point
of view, scientists are right to use animal models to provide themselves with
information about what is happening at level of detail that could not be achieved in
humans. Although there might have been some incidents when animal testing did
not prove to be useful and some effects of some drugs observed on animals could
not be observed on people, there are also a lot of examples that show that using
animals resulted in significant developments and helped to cure some serious
illnesses.
On the other hand, there may be alternative methods that should be used instead
of animal experimentation. Then, of course, it is cruel and unethical to use animals.
For example, in some experiments in-vitro methods can be used as an alternative
to using live animals. In such occasions, it is certainly much better and right to
employ these alternatives.

All in all, it can be said that using animals for medical research is ethical a long as it
contributes to scientific development and helps scientists find ways to improve
human health. And this practice is only acceptable on the condition that necessary
pains are taken and animals are treated humanely.

Argument essay:
Birth control

The expansion of the world population is the most important problem that should be
solved in order not to confront in the near future big social problems such as bad
economic circumstances and lack of resources, food and housing. Birth control,
although may lead to religious, cultural and moral objections, is the fastest way to
reduce the population growth rate. Therefore, governments should begin programs
of birth control even in a compulsory manner due to the fact that group survival is
more important than individual freedom.

First of all, a high birth rate means an ever-growing population, which needs more
accommodation, education, and health care. When you fail to control high birth
rates, this will bring about an expansion in the population. Increasing needs of the
expanding population cannot be provided easily. Hence, it will cause malnutrition,
health problems and dissatisfaction among people. Furthermore, with a high birth
rate in a rapidly growing population, social problems will lead to social crises and
explosion. Therefore, high birth rate in a population is a very serious problem that
should be solved as fast as possible to avoid crises in the country in concern.

Another negative aspect of high birth rate is the reduction of the natural resources
of a country. The diminishing natural resources also bring about high inflation rate
and unfavorable economic conditions. When natural resources of a country fail to
meet the growing domestic need, prices increase and living standards decline.
Therefore, in a developing country, the government should not let the population
increase uncontrollably.

Birth control is the fastest solution to stop an increasing population. A common

criticism of the practice of birth control is that involuntary birth control would not
work properly because most people believe that enforcing people to practice birth
control cannot be a solution. However, a high birth rate is a real problem, which the
government should actively participate for a guaranteed solution. The government
should launch a campaign to promote the necessity of birth control and to increase
awareness among the people.

Finally, because awareness raising programs will take a long time, until then for a
faster solution, the government, which has the power to enforce such programs,
should start compulsory birth control programs while raising consciousness and
conducting publicity campaigns.

MIGRANT LABOR

Migrant labor is the movement of people from one place to another in order
to find jobs. When you first hear this definition you may think a few people
moving out of the country does not matter. However, you have to consider
immigration may involve large numbers of people. Movement of such large
numbers may cause a lot of changes in the home country, host-country and
the laborers health. This is why I do not support the idea of labor migration
at all.

To begin with, some people claim that migrant labor has a positive impact
on the economy of the home country. According to these people, laborers
invest in improved technology on family farms or set up new enterprises in
their home-countries with the money they have earned. However, migration
causes a decrease in the number of people living in an area. Consequently,
Labor force decreases and the companies in the home-country collapse,
which affects the economy of this country very badly.

Secondly, the supporters of labor migration advocate that this movement

improves the immigrants standard of living. They put this idea forward
because in their opinion, labor integration enables people to have a new life
in new areas. The migrants also help their relatives to have a higher
standard of living. However, there is a point the supporters of this idea are
missing. There are hard social consequences of immigration. Firstly, the
immigrants are split from their families, a condition which is almost
impossible to stand. Moreover, they are thrown into a difficult cultural and
linguistic environment which they are totally strange to. Finally, conflicts with
host-population occur, which may influence the immigrants psychological
health badly.

To sum up, labor migration has several bad effects, but still, some people
support this movement. It is clear that these people do not consider the
situation in all aspects. All things considered, I believe that the spread of
migrant labor should be stopped before it gets out of hand.
