Re: Preserving Kensington Stables (a.k.a. 55 Caton Place)

Dear Mr. Yaverbaum,

It has come to my attention that the property located at 55 Caton Place in Brooklyn is scheduled
to be sold at auction on February 23, 2017, in connection to proceedings of the United States
Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York. I am writing to make clear that the
community strongly supports the preservation of a horse stable at this location, and that bidders
should be clear about this expectation. I would not support a rezoning of this property that did not
commit to preservation of a horse stables.

The property for sale is home to Kensington Stables, a longtime community institution that offers
trail rides in nearby Prospect Park. Built in 1930, as part of a riding academy founded in 1917, it
is one of the few remaining stables in New York City today. Kensington Stables offers guided
tours of Prospect Park on a 3.5-mile bridle path that runs alongside the alongside the Lake to the
Nethermead Arches and the Midwood.

Kensington Stables has also housed horses from Gallop NYC, a not-for-profit organization that
uses therapeutic horsemanship to help New Yorkers with disabilities build developmental,
emotional, social, and physical skills. Gallop NYC serves hundreds of riders every week at six
locations, including the Bowling Green in Prospect Park.

I am honored to represent the surrounding neighborhoods of Kensington and Windsor Terrace,

which strongly support the preservation of a stable at 55 Caton Place in Brooklyn. For this reason,
I encourage all prospective bidders to plan to preserve a horse stable at this location. As the New
York City Council Member for the 39th District, I will not support a rezoning of this property that
does not commit to preserving a horse stables there.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you require further information, please contact
Catherine Zinnel in my District Office at 718-499-1090.

Sincerely,

Brad Lander
