Select Committee of the RVACG Board of Directors on Landscape Planning

Minutes for Saturday, January 21, 2017.

President McVay called the Landscape Planning Committee meeting to order at 10:31 in the library at
Spring Green Community Church at 10:31 pm

Schneider made the motion to establish a quorum, McCarville second. Motion carried.
Present: McVay, Schneider, McCarville
Absent: B. Miller, D. Miller

Old Business.
There was no old business.
New Business.
McVay presented the following publications for the committees use.:
Gardening with Native Plants, a lecture presentation from Dr. Donita Cartmill, Associate
Professor of Environmental Horticulture, titled.
Selecting Trees and Shrubs in Windbreaks, A publication from the University of Minnesota
Extension titled
McVay presented the following publications for regarding a proposed arboretum:
A report titled Recommended Shade Trees for the Community Garden Site.
A report titled Windbreak Design and Species Selection.

Schneider questioned the meaning of arboretum. McVay explained the term is used to indicate anyplace
with trees.
McVay presented the following materials regarding a proposed prairie:
A report titled The Sparta Series.
A report titled Recommended Species of Prairie Plants for the Community Garden Site.
Discussion ensued on the type of prairie plants. McVay stated that the recommended species are those
that were native to the area before the land was developed or farmed.
All documents were examined. Questions asked. No action taken.

Adjourn.
Schneider made the motion to adjourn until the next scheduled meeting of Saturday, February 18, 2017,
starting at 10:00 a.m. in the library at Spring Green Community Church., second by McCarville. Motion
passed
