Select Committee of the RVACG Board of Directors on Landscape Planning

Minutes for Saturday, February 18, 2017.

President McVay called the February 18 meeting of the Landscape Planning Committee to order at 10:15
in the library of the Spring Green Community Church.
Schneider made the motion to establish a quorum. McCarville second. Motion carried.
Present: McVay, Schneider, McCarville, DAcquisto
Absent: B. Miller, D. Miller
McVay made the motion to approve the minutes from the January 21, 2017 meeting. McCarville second.
Motion carried
There was no old business.
New Business:
After much discussion, Schneider made the motion to establish a prairie garden in the western half of the
orchard area (where the tomatos were in 2016). McCarville second. Motion carried. There was no
determination of species other than the plants already collected from the disassembly of the Spring Green
Community Library Prairie Garden. McVay said he had a source for free prairie plants through UW-
Platteville.
Schneider made the motion to table discussion of the installation of a windbreak and the species for
planting. McVay second. Motion carried.
After much discussion, Schneider made the motion to purchase Red Maple, White Oak, River Birch trees
and Shadblow Serviceberry/Juneberry (Viburnum), American Elderberry, and Highbush Cranberry shrubs
from Sauk County. McCarville second. Motion carried. McVay is receiving a free Ginko tree.
There was no official action taken on the installation of the beehive but in the earlier discussion of the
prairie garden, the discussion centered on waiting until 2018 for the establishment of a beehive on the
property.
Open Forum.
McCarville asked what tools should be included in the March fundraiser with Doerre Hardware. Any
special tool recommendation should be sent to McCarville soon.
Bird houses, bat houses, and bee / insect houses were discussed.
The installation of a grape arbor was discussed.
Schneider made the motion to adjourn until the next scheduled meeting of Saturday, March 18, 2017,
starting at 10:00 a.m. in the library at Spring Green Community Church. McCarville second. Meeting
adjourned 12:30 pm.
