Talpac 8 Release Notes

Welcome to the release of Talpac 8!

Simply follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to install the program. Note that
Talpac 8 will update a Talpac 7 project for you but it will no longer work with Talpac 7 - so it
is recommended that you keep a backup.

The main changes to the program are:

Updated Truck and Loader database. See the next page for a list of changes.

The Main Screen has been simplified to make the program easier to use. It is no
longer necessary to use the right-mouse button or to search through menus to
delete or copy templates. A help bar on the bottom of the screen will be used
further in later versions to assist in finding the option that you need.

The Results Table can now be viewed transposed, that is with the fields down the
screen rather than across. This has allowed us to provide formatting as well so you
can set the fonts and colours of the rows. There are also many new fields available
for display and all haul cycle fields can now be selected for display in the results
table.

Incremental Analysis has been completely re-written with much more

functionality and hopefully easier to use also. You can increment a much greater
range of parameters, and even increment more than one parameter at a time.

The Project Manager has a selection box beside each line so that only the selected
haulage systems will be simulated. A progress bar shows the progress through
the haulage systems. Talpac 8 can run simulations faster than previous versions,
and thus is better suited to large simulation runs.

The Template manager now has the ability to export multiple haul cycles into a
CSV file. These files can be re-imported into another Talpac project, or Excel.

A new tutorial has been added to help a new user learn the program.
We hope you like these changes. Let us know what you think and tell us any other features
that you would like to see in Talpac.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES
To ensure Talpac 8 installs correctly on a Windows 2000 or XP operating system, you must
be logged on using the Administrator account or a user account that has administrator
privileges.

1. Talpac 8 ships with an on-line support utility called WebEx. WebEx allows you and a
Runge support representative to conduct an interactive meeting via the Internet. During
this meeting, each party is able to share their screen display and control of Talpac with the
other party. This allows us to provide faster and more efficient support. WebEx can be
installed through either the Install WebEx option on the main set-up menu or by
answering "Yes" when prompted to install WebEx during the Talpac installation process.
Please note that for either of these options, Administrator privileges are required for the
installation to be successful. For more information regarding WebEx, please visit the
following web site: http://runge.webex.com/webex/.

2. Installer please note: Once Talpac 8 is installed on a PC, you will need to register the
software.
Ensure that your Talpac 8 dongle is the first Runge key connected to your parallel
port.
On start up, you will be presented with the Talpac Licence screen. There are several
options available.

Register Now
If you have been supplied with a software file (on a 3.5" disk), click this button and search
for the file. Double click the registration file. Click "OK". Click "I agree". Software
should now open for use.

Register Later
If you have not been supplied with a software file (on a 3.5" disk), and you have a Talpac
dongle connected, you will need this option. Your hardware Key Code will be displayed
on the lower half of this screen. Click the e-mail or fax button to send your Key Code to
Runge. A registration file will be returned to you ASAP. To continue to use Talpac 8,
click the Register Later button for a 7-day grace period.

Evaluation Mode
This option is for evaluation purposes and will let you use all aspects of the program.
There is limited use of the Truck and Loader database though.
