Bill of Rights
Amendment1: Congressshallmakenolawrespectinganestablishmentofreligion,orprohibitingthe
freeexercisethereof;orabridgingthefreedomofspeech,orofthepress;ortherightofthepeople
peaceablytoassemble,andtopetitionthegovernmentforaredressofgrievances.
Amendment2: Awellregulatedmilitia,beingnecessarytothesecurityofafreestate,therightofthe
peopletokeepandbeararms,shallnotbeinfringed.
Amendment3: Nosoldiershall,intimeofpeacebequarteredinanyhouse,withouttheconsentofthe
owner,norintimeofwar,butinamannertobeprescribedbylaw.
Amendment4: Therightofthepeopletobesecureintheirpersons,houses,papers,andeffects,
againstunreasonablesearchesandseizures,shallnotbeviolated,andnowarrantsshallissue,butupon
probablecause,supportedbyoathoraffirmation,andparticularlydescribingtheplacetobesearched,and
thepersonsorthingstobeseized.
Amendment5: Nopersonshallbeheldtoanswerforacapital,orotherwiseinfamouscrime,unlesson

shallprivatepropertybetakenforpublicuse,withoutjustcompensation.
Amendment6: Inallcriminalprosecutions,theaccusedshallenjoytherighttoaspeedyandpublic
trial,byanimpartialjuryofthestateanddistrictwhereinthecrimeshallhavebeencommitted,which
districtshallhavebeenpreviouslyascertainedbylaw,andtobeinformedofthenatureandcauseofthe
accusation;tobeconfrontedwiththewitnessesagainsthim;tohavecompulsoryprocessforobtaining
witnessesinhisfavor,andtohavetheassistanceofcounselforhisdefense.
Amendment7: Insuitsatcommonlaw,wherethevalueincontroversyshallexceedtwentydollars,the
rightoftrialbyjuryshallbepreserved,andnofacttriedbyajury,shallbeotherwisereexaminedinany
courtoftheUnitedStates,thanaccordingtotherulesofthecommonlaw.
Amendment8: Excessivebailshallnotberequired,norexcessivefinesimposed,norcrueland
unusualpunishmentsinflicted.
Amendment9: TheenumerationintheConstitution,ofcertainrights,shallnotbeconstruedtodenyor
disparageothersretainedbythepeople.
Amendment10: ThepowersnotdelegatedtotheUnitedStatesbytheConstitution,norprohibitedby
ittothestates,arereservedtothestatesrespectively,ortothepeople.
