AUTOMATIC BLADE/HEAD ADJUSTMENT WITH THERMAL

ACTUATOR.
When the supply air temperature changes from cooling to
heating or vice versa we have to change the blades/head
adjustment of the grille or diffuser in order to keep the thermal
comfort in sufficient level and to avoid draughts. From our
experience we now that in many cases this never happen even
if the grilles/diffusers are equipped with electric actuator. For
this reason AEROGRAMMI designed and produce grilles and
diffusers where are auto adjusted and they dont need human
intervention.
The automatic adjustment of the blades/head angle is
succeeded with a thermal actuator which according to the
supply air temperature moves an axis. This movement is very
intensive between 20-28oC, and outside this temperature area
the movement is very small.
Usually the supply air temperature in cooling is below
20oC and in heating is over 28oC. We can use this
1P-AUTH phenomenon with a proper motion transmission mechanism to
adjust the blades/head angle in the preselected position of
cooling or heating.
The installation of the automatic blade/head angle
adjustment mechanism is possible in the types GR, MLD,
MLD-DW, S, AMB, AMB-AP-42, OK1/2, T1P and 2P. The
installation of the automatic adjustment mechanism has
2P-AUTH limitations so before your order please advice the products
brochures or the engineers of our company.
The advantages of this method are that the installation of
the grille/diffuser is like a simple one, after the installation
there is no need of any adjustment or service and in
comparison with the grilles/diffusers with electric actuator the
cost is smaller. Also you avoid the labor and materials cost of
the electric installation.

SURFACE TREATMENTS OF ALUMINIUM
For the products AEROGRAMMI that are aluminum manufactured, alloy with composition
AlMgSiO2S (606040) which is anodized or electrostatic painted is used. The process that is
followed and the characteristics of the anodization and the electrostatic paint are described
below.
ANODIZATION
Activity of artificial oxidation at which the profiles by which the grille is manufactured are
sunk in water solution of sulphuric acid and continuous current is applied so we have
electrolisation. Thus shapes a uniform and transparent layer of oxide (Aluminate) in the surface
of the profile with thickness 12m which is completely incorporated in the metal. By doing this
accretion problems are eliminated.
he required thickness of anodization for internal spaces is 10 m and for exterior urban
spaces it is 10-15 m.
Advantages:
High anticorrosion protection from humidity, salinity etc
The surface texture of the grille will not degrade neither the capacity of painting.
The objects have metal aspect, smooth or mat.
Increases the hardness of his surface.
ELECTROSTATIC PAINT
Preparation (cleaning) of the surface of aluminum is taking place with submersion of the
grilles in suitable chemical solutions, and follows the deposition of electrostatic charged
polyesteric powder in the grilles which are grounded. Then polymerization of powder is taking
place in temperature of 190oC in order to create a protective stable coating of paint.
Advantages:
There is unlimited variety of colors thus satisfies the requirements of each architectural
application.
It protects aluminum from the corrosion making it durable through time.
The thickness of electrostatic paint is between 60 to 120 m.
ATTENTION must be paid in every case, that the aluminum from which the air grilles are
manufactured has applied at least one from the two above mentioned treatments. This in the first
look means increase of the cost but if we see it in the long run we will see that the total cost will
be decreased because we will avoid problems.
In the case that aluminum has not suffered any from the above then the grille will be
corroded and will became black color in a short time making it non good looking. In addition to
this fungus will grow on its surface. In the case of having cold air supply condenses will grow on
its surface.

GENERAL FEATURES
Air terminal devices of series OK are ceiling grilles
(diffusers) with adjustable blades. They are
manufactured in four different types :
-OK1: air discharge towards one direction
-OK2: air discharge towards two directions
-OK3: air discharge towards three directions
-OK4: air discharge towards four directions

Air grilles of series OK are used for air supply in low-height rooms of up to 5 m height. They may also be used for
return air applications. Their blades are adjustable allowing for air jet regulation. They may be equipped with
volume flow regulating dampers of D series. Their blades can be bridged making air jet adjustment easier. They
are manufactured at any size, however their usual dimensions are shown in the table of p. OK2.
Anodized aluminum profile of 12 m anodic depth is used for their construction, providing long life. Alternatively,
electrostatic painting in a variety of colors is available.
Their general configuration is shown in the next figure, while their dimensions are given in the figure of page OK2.

Shape of the air jet

Possible air jet configurations using OK series grilles To, Vo, Uo

are shown in figures 1&2. The blades of the grilles are

Y[0m/s]
adjustable, allowing for jet modification to either
vertical direction (when used for heating of spaces
having large height) or horizontal direction parallel to
U=0m/s
the ceiling (when used for cooling). All intermediate jet

H
direction configurations may be accomplished
through adequate blade positioning. In case of
horizontal air discharge, the air jet upon meeting an

1,80 m
obstacle (e.g. wall), or another air jet, forms a
downflow air stream - see figure 2 -.

Selection of series OK grilles
While selecting grilles of OK series it is important that the air
jet conditions at distance Y from the ceiling are within
specifications (e.g. CEN-CR-1752).
For the selection of OK series ceiling grilles the diagrams of

Yw
To,Vo,Uo To,Vo,Uo
pages OK4 - OK15 are used. The grilles' selection is based
Y
on their equivalent diameter. The equivalent diameter can be
found for each grille type from the corresponding tables. For
grille types of more than one air jet directions the air volume q

flow towards each direction is not the same and can be

estimated using the relevant tables.

Selection example - detailed calculation of the air jet characteristics

What are the air jet characteristics resulting from the use of OK1 grilles with nominal dimensions 250X300 mm and for air
3
volume flow rate of 500 m /h ? If the distance of the above grilles is 2X = 7m, at which distance Y from the ceiling the air velocity
o o
Um = 0,5 m/s and what is the temperature Tm at this point if the air inlet temperature is 35 C and the room temperature 20 C?
The equivalent diameter of the 250x300 mm OK1 grille is found from table OK1 to be Deq 0,31 m. From Diagram 1 for an
3
equivalent diameter of Deq = 0,31 m and volume flow rate of Vo = 500 m /h, moving horizontally to Diagram 2 we reach the
line corresponding to Um = 0,5 m/s. From this position moving vertically towards Diagram 4, distance Y = 1,4m is found for 2X
3
= 7m (x=3,5m). From Diagram 5 for Deq = 0,31 m and Vo = 500 m /h, moving horizontally to Diagram 6 and for distance 7 m,
q is calculated around 0,01. Thus, Tm is almost the same as the room temperature.

What are the adequate OK1 grille dimensions for ventilating a room of height H = 3,8 m while placed at a distance 2X = 7m,
3
with Vo = 250 m /h, so that the final air jet velocity to be 0,3 m/s at height 0,5m over the people moving area - 1,8 m from the
floor - ?
The vertical distance from the ceiling Y should be less than 3,8 - 0,5 - 1,8 = 1,5 m. For this distance and from the line
corresponding to distance 2X = 7m from Diagram 4, moving vertically to Diagram 2 up to Um = 0,3 m/s and then horizontally
3
to Diagram 1, one reads for Vo = 250 m /h an equivalent diameter Deq = 0,26 m. From Table OK1 and for this diameter it is
found that the grille should be of dimensions 15X35 or even 25X20 cm.

What is the maximum throw using a series OK1 grille of dimensions 450X450mm for vertical air stream of 1000 m /h and =

3
From Table OK1 the equivalent diameter is found to be 0,51 m. For this diameter and Vo = 1000 m /h moving horizontally from
o
Diagram 1 to Diagram 2 and for = 15 C, a vertical throw of Y = 3,1 m is calculated.

Selection example - detailed calculation of the air jet characteristics

What are the jet characteristics resulting from the use of OK2 grilles with nominal dimensions 450X450 mm and for air volume
3
flow rate of 500 m /h ? What should be the distance between these grilles so that at distance Y = 0,9m from the ceiling the air
o
velocity Um = 0,3 m/s and what is the temperature Tm at this point if the air inlet temperature is To=18 C and the room
o
temperature Tr=25 C?
The equivalent diameter of the 450x450 mm OK2 grille is found from table OK2 to be 0,36 m. From Diagram 1 for an
3
equivalent diameter of Deq = 0,36 m and flow rate of Vo = 500/2=250 m /h, moving horizontally to Diagram 2 we reach the line
corresponding to Um = 0,3 m/s at horizontal distance from the grille of 5,6 m. From this position moving vertically towards
Diagram 4, distance 2X = 3 m is found for Y = 0,9 m. From Diagram 5 for Deq = 0,36 m and Vo = 250 m3/h, moving horizontally
to Diagram 6 and for distance 5,6 m, q is calculated around 0,01. Thus, Tm is almost the same as the room temperature.

What are the adequate square OK2 grille dimensions for ventilating a space of height H = 4,1 m placed at a distance 2X = 3m,
3
with Vo = 500 m /h, so that the final air jet velocity to be 0,2 m/s at height 0,3m over the people moving area - 1,8 m from the
floor - ?
The vertical distance from the ceiling Y should be less than 4,1 - 0,3 - 1,8 = 2 m. For this distance and from the line
corresponding to distance 2X = 3m (X=1,5m) from Diagram 4, moving vertically to Diagram 2 up to Um = 0,2 m/s and then
3
horizontally to Diagram 1, one reads for Vo = 250 m /h an equivalent diameter Deq = 0,36 m. From Table OK2 and for this
diameter it is found that the grille should be of dimensions 450X450mm.

From Table OK2 the equivalent diameter is found to be 0,4 m. For this diameter and Vo = 500 m /h moving horizontally from

Selection example - detailed calculation of the air jet characteristics

What are the jet characteristics resulting from the use of OK3 grilles with nominal dimensions 450X450 mm and for air volume
3
flow rate of 500 m /h ? What is the appropriate distance between these grilles so that at distance Y = 1 m from the ceiling the air
velocity Um = 0,2 m/s and what is the temperature ratio Tq at that position?
The equivalent diameter of the 450x450 mm OK3 grille is found from table OK3 to be 0,29 m. From Diagram 1 for an
3
equivalent diameter of Deq = 0,29 m and flow rate of Vo = 167 m /h (1/3 of the total flow rate), moving horizontally to Diagram 2
we reach the line corresponding to Um = 0,2 m/s at horizontal distance from the grille of 5,5 m. From this position moving
vertically towards Diagram 4, distance 2X = 2 m (X=1m) is found for Y = 1 m. From Diagram 5 for Deq = 0,29 m and Vo = 167
3
m /h, moving horizontally to Diagram 6 and for distance 5,5 m, q is calculated less than 0,01.

What are the adequate square OK3 grille dimensions for ventilating a room of height H = 3 m, placed at a distance 2X = 3 m ,
3
with Vo = 750 m /h, so that the final air jet velocity to be 0,2 m/s at height 0,5 m over the people moving area - 1,8 m from the
floor - ?
The vertical distance from the ceiling Y should be less than 3 - 0,5 - 1,8 = 0,7 m. For this distance and from the line
corresponding to distance 2X = 3 m from Diagram 4, moving vertically to Diagram 2 up to Um = 0,2 m/s and then horizontally
3
to Diagram 1, one reads for Vo = 250 m /h an equivalent diameter Deq = 0,59 m. From Table OK3 and for this diameter it is
found that the appropriate grille dimensions are 900X900mm.

Vertical air discharge - Heating mode

3
What is the maximum throw using a series OK3 grille of dimensions 150X600mm for vertical air stream of 750 m /h and =

20 C?
3
From Table OK3 the equivalent diameter is found to be 0,2 m. For this diameter and Vo = 250 m /h moving horizontally from
o
Diagram 1 to Diagram 2 and for = 20 C, a vertical throw of Y = 2,2 m is calculated.

Selection example - detailed calculation of the air jet characteristics

What are the jet characteristics resulting from the use of OK4 grilles with nominal dimensions 350X400 mm and for air volume
flow rate of 500 m3/h ? What is the appropriate distance between these grilles so that at distance Y = 1 m from the ceiling the air
velocity Um = 0,2 m/s and what is the temperature ratio Tq at that position?
The equivalent diameter of the 350X400 mm OK4 grille is found from table OK4 to be Deq 0,21 m. From Diagram 1 for an
3
equivalent diameter of Deq = 0,21 m and flow rate of Vo = 125 m /h (1/4 of the total flow rate), moving horizontally to Diagram 2
we reach the line corresponding to Um = 0,2 m/s at horizontal distance from the grille of 7 m. From this position moving
vertically towards Diagram 4, distance 2X = 8 m is found for Y = 1 m. From Diagram 5 for Deq = 0,21 m and Vo = 125 m3/h,
moving horizontally to Diagram 6 and for distance 7 m, q is calculated less than 0,01.

What are the adequate square OK4 grille dimensions for ventilating a room of height H = 3,5 m while placed at a distance 2X =
5 m, with Vo = 1000 m3/h, so that the final air jet velocity to be 0,3 m/s at height 0,2m over the people moving area - 1,8 m from
the floor - ?
The vertical distance from the ceiling Y should be less than 3,5 - 0,2 - 1,8 = 1,5 m. For this distance and from the line
corresponding to distance 2X = 5 m from Diagram 4, moving vertically to Diagram 2 up to Um = 0,3 m/s and then horizontally
3
to Diagram 1, one reads for Vo = 250 m /h (1/4 of the total flow rate) an equivalent diameter Deq = 0,22 m. From Table OK4 and
for this diameter it is found that the appropriate grille dimensions are 450X350 or even 500X300mm.

Vertical air discharge - Heating mode

What is the maximum vertical throw during heating using a series OK4 grille of dimensions 350X350mm for vertical air stream
of 1000 m3/h and = 20o C?
3
From Table OK4 the equivalent diameter is found to be 0,2 m. For this diameter and Vo = 250 m /h (1/4 of the total flow rate)
o
moving horizontally from Diagram 1 to Diagram 2 and for = 20 C, a vertical throw of Y = 2,3 m is calculated.

GR CEILING SWIRL DIFFUSER

BLADE ANGLE ADJUSTMENT WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR

There are two types of actuators where are used for
the adjustment of the blades angle: on-off (2 points) or
analogue. The on-off actuator allows us, using a switch
which gives or interrupts the electric power in the contact No
3, to give to the diffuser blades two different angles. In
cooling mode the blades are in side position and all to the
same direction (swirl). In heating mode the blades are in
vertical position. The analogue actuators allow us, using a 0-
10V potentiometer which gives signal in the contact No 3, to
adjust the blades angle in any position between two limit
positions (cooling (side) heating (vertical)). In the analogue
actuators we use the contact No 5 signal to read the
position of the electric actuator (position feedback). The
actuator installation is possible in the types: GR-AR, GR-
AR-A and GR-RR. For example: GR-AR-500-ANALOGUE-
AC 220V ON-OFF: AC/DC 24V ON-OFF: 24V. For the electric actuators:
Max. Temperature: 50oC, Max. Relative Humidity: 95%
AC/DC 24V ANALOGUE AC 220V ANALOGUE

AUTOMATIC BLADE ANGLE ADJUSTMENT WITH THERMAL ACTUATOR

(GR--AUTH)

The automatic adjust-

ment of the blades angle
is succeeded with a
thermal actuator which
according to the supply
air temperature moves an
axis. This movement is
very intensive between
20-28oC, outside this
temperature area the
movement very small.

Usually the supply air temperature in cooling is below 20oC and in heating is over 28oC. We
can use this phenomenon with a proper motion transmission mechanism to adjust the blades angle
in the position of cooling or heating. The installation of the automatic blade angle adjustment
mechanism is possible in the types GR-AR, GR-AR-A and GR-RR up to size 600. The big
advantage in this case is that we install the diffuser like a simple one and we forget it, and that we
have not the cost of the electric installation like the diffusers with electric actuator.
For example: GR-AR-A-AUTH-400.

MLD CEILING ROUND SWIRL DIFFUSER

GENERAL
LD is a round swirl
diffuser with adjustable
blades. Because of the
shape of the main body and
the way of the blade
adjustment, the diffuser
presents big adaptability, so
it is possible to use MLD
diffuser in small and big
heights with small or big air
volume supply, in heating or
MLD-6P MLD-8P cooling.
Consists of a cylindrical body made by aluminium and six (MLD-6P, except dimension
630) or eight (MLD-8P) trapezoid blades, convergent to the center, made by steel. In the center
there is the mechanism for the blade angle adjustment under a plastic cover. The diffuser is
painted electrostatically in color RAL 9010 but is possible to be painted and in other RAL colors.
In the case where we have relatively small installation height and big air volume supply we can
use the MLD-DW version where the cylindrical body is double. See more details in the last page.

ADJUSTMENT
We can regulate the blades corner manually as standard (see instructions in last page).
In alternative we can use for the blades corner adjustment:
Mechanism which adjusts automatically the corner of the blades according to
the supply air temperature (-AUTH). For supply air temperature below 20oC the blades are in
the cooling position, from the 20oC to the 28oC the blades corner changes slowly and reaches the
heating position where remains for temperatures bigger than 28oC. The advantages of this
method are: a) The installation of the diffuser is exactly the same with the manual adjusted
version, b) costs less than the same diffuser with electric actuator, c) we dont have the material
and labor cost of the electric installation (wires, switches, potentiometers, fuses etc) and d) after
the installation there is no need someone to do something about the adjustment of the diffuser.
Details in page 11.
Electric actuator on-off (24V or 220V) or analogue (24V or 220V, control signal 0-
10V). For details, wire connections and restrictions see page 11.

WAY OF ORDER
For the order of the diffusers MLD we use the following string of letters and numbers.

MLD- . - . . - . - RAL . - .

6P: 6 blades Blank or SIZE: A: for fixing with COLOR Blank for manual adjustment
(not for 630) DW 200, 250, 300, screws in the front CODE: or the type of the electric
8P: 8 blades 350, 400, 450, flange, i.e.: 9010 actuator (on-off 220V, on-off
500, 630 : for fixing with 24V, analogue 24V,
screws in the neck analogue 220V) or AUTH for
automatic adjustment.
For example: MLD - 6P - 300 - A - RAL 9003 - AUTH
When you order MLD with electric actuator or automatic adjustment you must inform us for
the installation height, the air volume supply and the in heating and cooling. This way we will
make the proper adjustments in the diffuser.

INSTALLATION
The diffuser installation is possible a) in false ceiling using a plenum box (1,2), b) in
round sleeve after a round or rectangular visible air duct (3,4) c) in false ceiling using flexible
duct (5).
In the first case the diffuser is fixed with screws either from the external flange (visible
fixing) either from the neck (secret fixing), in this case the plenum box is fixed by wire cords in
the ceiling. In the second case the diffuser is fixed with screws from the external flange or the
neck, depends on the sleeve diameter.

3

In the third case the diffuser is fixed in the false ceiling with screws in the external flange
and in the back is connected the flexible duct.
In any case, like every diffuser, we must take care the supply air to reach equalized in the
diffuser. If we have plenum box we must install perforated equalizing grid. If we have sleeve this
must have length at least three diameters or equalizing grid. If we have flexible duct this must be
vertical for length of three diameters. The equalizing grid must have big free area to avoid big
pressure drop. If we have damper before the diffuser this must be at a distance of three
diameters or before the equalizing grid.

CALCULATION EXAMPLE
For the calculation of the MLD-6P diffuser we use the selection diagrams of the next
pages. The first of the diagrams is an example of a full calculation. The sizes which appear in the
diagrams are described in the following table. The sizes which their symbols are in grey
background are the data where we must know to make the calculation. The diffusers MLD-8P in
relation with the 6 they have not significant changes in vertical penetration (in heating), noise
and pressure drop. In cooling they have smaller air velocity in the occupied zone.

DESCRIPTION OF SIZES MENTIONED IN THE SELECTION DIAGRAMS

SYMBOL SIZE MEAS. UNIT.

h: Supply air temperature in heating (in the diffuser) C

rh: Room air temperature in heating C

c: Supply air temperature in cooling (in the diffuser) C

rc: Room air temperature in cooling C
h: Temperature deference of supply room air in heating
c: Temperature deference of room - supply air in cooling
Vroom: Total air volume supply in the room via MLD diffusers m3/h
Vsup: Air volume supply per diffuser m3/h
n: Number of MLD diffusers pcs
h: Installation height m
a: Minimum distance between diffusers m
vx: Air velocity, in cooling, in height 1,8m from the floor m/sec
vo: Air velocity in the neck of the diffuser m/sec
vx/v: Ratio of air velocity in height 1,8m to the air velocity in the diffuser,
in cooling

ah: Blade corner in heating

ais: Blade corner in isothermal

ac: Blade corner in cooling
ph: Pressure drop in the diffuser in heating Pa
pis: Pressure drop in the diffuser in isothermal Pa
pc: Pressure drop in the diffuser in cooling Pa
Lw h: Noise from the diffuser in heating d(A)
Lwis: Noise from the diffuser in isothermal d(A)
Lw c: Noise from the diffuser in cooling d(A)
As we see in the example of the next page we start from the Vsup line and we proceed
according to the arrows vertical (upwards and downwards) changing direction in the known
values of the h, h, c, vx. This way we take the results. For the pressure drop and the noise
we have values for the blade corners 30, 45, 60. Usually from the calculations we take different
corners from these. So based in the values we take for the corners 30, 45, 60 we calculate
with interference the values of the noise and the pressure drop for the case where we study.

BLADES CORNER ADJUSTEMENT WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR

There are two types of electric actuators, which are
used to adjust the blades corner (for diameter 250 and
up): On-off (2 point) or analogue. The on-off actuators
allow us through a switch who gives or interrupts the
electric power in the contact No 3, to put the blades in two
different corners (cooling-heating) calculated by the
diagrams of the previous pages. The analogue actuators
allow us, through a 0-10V potentiometer connected in the
contact No 3, to adjust the blades corner in any position
between 2 corners limits (cooling-heating) calculated by
diagrams of the previous pages. In the analogue
actuators the signal of the contact No 5 is used to read
the actuator position (position feedback).
For the electric actuators:
Max. Temperature: 50oC, Max. Relative Humidity: 95%
AC 220V ON-OFF: AC/DC 24V ON-OFF: AC/DC 24V ANALOGUE AC 220V ANALOGUE

AUTOMATIC BLADES ADJUSTMENT WITH THERMAL ACTUATOR

The automatic
blades adjustment is
achieved through a
mechanism, which
moves an axis,
according to the
supply air tempe-
rature. This move-
ment is intense in the
temperature area of
20-28C, and very
small outside this
area. Considering
that the supply air
temperature is usual-
ly less than 20C in cooling and more than 28C in heating we can use this phenomenon with a
proper motion transmission mechanism to adjust automatically the blades corner in the values
calculated by the diagrams of the previous pages.

MLD CEILING SWIRL DIFFUSER

MLD-6P/8P-DW

In the MLD type swirl diffuser while the blades are being closed the pressure drop and
the noise increase, because the free surface of the diffuser decreases. So, the pressure drop
and the noise in cooling are higher than heating. This takes place too little in the MLD-6P/8P-
DW type, because of its double wall design, while at the same time the vertical throw in heating
is not affected (so long as the blades are in a little more vertical position than the blades of
simple MLD).
In heating the blades are near to the vertical position, so the air flow doesnt meet too
much resistance during exiting the diffuser. A little amount of air leaks from the side of the
diffuser through the double wall. In cooling, when the blades are being closed the air flow meets
much resistance, so an important part of its amount leaks from the side of the diffuser through
the double wall, therefore the air exiting velocity is lower in the cooling (in comparison with the
simple MLD). So the pressure drop, the noise and the air velocity in the occupied zone are
lower.
GUIDELINES FOR THE MANUAL DIFFUSER ADJUSTMENT
We unscrew and remove the
hemispherical cup (A) in the centre of the

diffuser.
We unscrew a little the screw (B) which
is into the C shaped slot. C
We rotate an opposite positioned blades C
pair (C) to adjust the corner of all the blades
D in the desired value (We see the corner
with the arrow (D)).
We tight the screw () to fix the blades in the desired position.
We screw again the cup ().
MLD(-DW) IN PLATE SPR
When we want to install the diffusers MLD, MLD-DW in false
ceiling with dimensions 600X600 mm we can use the plate SPR.
SPR is a steel plate with thickness 1mm and outside dimensions
595X595mm with round hole in the center for diffuser installation. The
plate and the diffuser are electrostatically painted in RAL color.
Possible nominal diffuser dimensions for installation in SPR:
-For MLD: 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450.
-For MLD-DW: 200, 250, 300, 350, 400.

SL
SLOT DIFFUSER
Diffusers of series SL are linear
diffusers with a number of slot outlets. They
are usually used in ventilation system for air
supply, but they may also be used for return air
applications.
SL diffusers are mounted on ceilings or
SL
probably on walls.
It is suitable for architectural
applications because of its design.
Either side of each slot has adjustable
blades with which it is possible to adjust the
SL-C-P beam of the air in any direction. Also through
the fins it is possible to change the free
surface of the groove or the closure (acting as a damper).

Anodized aluminum profile is used for their construction providing long life. Alternatively,
electrostatic painting in a variety of colors is available (RAL). The fins are made of black or white
plastic.
At the rear of the diffuser may be mounted a black perforated equalizing grid in order not to be
visible from the front.

Proektasi Makriyanni P.O. BOX 236 P.C. 57 013 Thessaloniki GREECE Tel. 0030 2310 682572 FAX 0030 2310 685047 www.aerogrammi.gr e-mail: info@aerogrammi.gr
In case of having long size diffuser (more than 2,5m), then the diffuser is manufactured in two
or more pieces. The intermediate pieces have no end caps on the small sides and it seems like one
piece.
The diffuser is fixed either with screws, or with a secret fixing P which has already been
installed in the hole. The nozzle is secured by screws which are screwed through the slots.
It is possible for special pieces to be constructed such as corners (up to 4 slots). In these
pieces blades cant be adjusted.
For the proper operation the air inputs of plenum should be on the side and one input per
meter at least.

TPA
GENERAL: The drum jet diffuser TPA is suitable
for heating and cooling applications, for use in big
rooms like airports, theatres, hospitals, shopping
centers, factories etc. Also due to its large free
surface it can be used when we have large air
supply.
DESCRIPTION: It consists of rectangular frame
in which there is a cylinder with rectangular opening
TPA that rotates. Turning the cylinder you can adjust the
direction of air upwards or downwards. The rotation
of the cylinder is done manually or by actuator.
Between the frame and cylinder a seal is placed in
order to avoid air leakage from that point.
In the cylinder there are manually rotated
blades with aerodynamic shape. With these we can
turn the air sideways or open-close the air throw.
TPA-SV When you open the air throw there is better mixing
of the supply air with the room air. Thus, the air
velocity decreases rapidly and simultaneously
balances the supply air temperature to the
temperature of the ambient air.

TYPES: TPA is available in the following executions:

TPA: With one row of adjustable blades.
TPA-D: With one row of adjustable blades and aluminum made, multiple leaf, air
volume control damper with simultaneously opposite rotated blades.
TPA-SV: With two rows of adjustable blades (up and down).
TPA-SV-D: With two rows of adjustable blades (up and down) and aluminum made,
multiple leaf, air volume control damper with simultaneously opposite rotated blades.
All the types above are also available with electric actuator on-off 220V or analogue 24V
for the drum position control.

MATERIALS: The frame and the blades of TPA are manufactured by aluminium. The
drum is made by steel electrostatically painted in RAL color.

INSTALLATION AND FIXING: The TPA diffuser installation is usually in a wall (for
heating and cooling purposes). Installation in ceiling is recommended only for heating.
Installation in visible air ducts is also possible.
The fixing is with visible screws, which are mounted in countersunk holes in the
frame of the diffuser.
DIMENSIONS: TPA diffuser is manufactured in the nominal dimensions (dimensions of
hole in the wall or duct), AXB which can be seen to the following table. The drum of the
diffuser is rotated 60 totally (30 up and 30 down from the basic line of diffuser) in all
produced dimensions.

AMB-AP-42 SELF ADJUSTED (-AUTH) OR WITH ACTUATOR
(-ON/OFF 220V or -ANALOGUE 24V)
In this case the nozzles are installed in an aluminium subframe. The subframe is
rotated in relation with the external aluminium frame. Both frame and subframe can be
anodized or painted electrostatically in RAL color. The plastic nozzles are manufactured in
certain colors (see page 4).
AMB-AP-42-AUTH: The self
adjustment of the subframe angle, which
contains the nozzles, is succeeded with a
thermal actuator, which according to the
supply air temperature moves an axis. This
movement is very intensive between 20-
28oC, outside this temperature area the
movement is very small.
Usually the supply air temperature in
cooling is below 20 C and in heating is over 28oC. We can
o

use this phenomenon with a proper motion transmission

mechanism to adjust the subframe angle in the position of
cooling or heating. The installation of the subframe angle self
adjustment mechanism is possible for AMB-AP-42-AUTH
diffusers up to 8X2 nozzles. Up to 4X2 nozzles the mechanism
is in the one side of the diffuser, for more nozzles the
mechanism is in the middle of the diffuser. The big advantage
in this case is that we install the diffuser like a simple one and
we forget it, and that we have not the cost of the electric
installation like the diffusers with electric actuator.

manufactured with a curvature same as the air duct curvature, so
a perfect fit and a high design are achieved. The nozzles are
installed in a fixed subframe.
The following types are manufactured:

AMB-AP-SR-22: With set of jet diffusers with active diameter 22mm.

AMB-AP-SR-42: With set of jet diffusers with active diameter 42mm.
In both cases the jet diffusers have adjustable head towards all D

AMB JET NOZZLE

AMB-KSR AMB-KO AMB-KL

The diffuser AMB is a jet nozzle suitable for heating and cooling applications. For use in
big rooms like sport centers, theatres, cinemas, shopping centers and factories. The big
advantage of the AMB diffusers is the very long horizontal throw. Also it is equipped with
adjustable head (manually in any direction, by electric actuator or auto regulated up and down
only) in order to adjust the direction of the air.
Manufactured by aluminium electrostatically painted in RAL color or polished. There are
parts made by galvanised steel and plastic.
Different types are available according to the way of installation.

AMB-KO AMB-KL AMB-KA AMB-KSR

ADJUSTMENT
The regulation of the adjustable head is manual as standard. In all types and in all
dimensions is possible the installation of electric actuator (internal or external, in the dimensions
80, 90, 110, 125 of the type AMB-KO only internal) for the adjustment of the head angle. The
actuator could be on-off or analogue, 220 or 24V (see page 19). Also in all types and dimensions
is possible the installation of mechanism for the automatic adjustment of the head angle
according to the supply air temperature without need of external power (AUTH).

INSTALLATION
The installation of the jet nozzle AMB is possible in horizontal (DRAWING-2) or vertical
position (DRAWING-1). The vertical installation is recommended only for heating.
When we have horizontal installation the hot air goes up and the cold air goes down. So
we use the adjustable head to send the hot air down and the cold air up.
Details for the installation of the AMB-KO diffusers in page 20.

HEAD ADJUSTMENT WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR

In the diffusers AMB with electric actuator the head is

moving in one direction (up and down) only. The actuator is
possible to be installed external (-E) or internal (-I). In AMB-
KO-80/90/110/125 the actuator is installed internal only.

AMB-MLD JET NOZZLE WITH ADJUSTABLE THROW

Sometimes the throw achieved by the AMB jet nozzle is
bigger than the needed. In this case we can use the AMB-MLD jet
nozzle which has in the neck the core and the blades of the MLD
diffuser (in black color to be not visible). When we change the
blades angle we change the opening of the air jet so the throw of
the air jet. You can see how you can adjust the blades angle in the
MLD diffuser brochure. For the dimensions 80, 90, 110 and 125
you can find the pressure drop and the noise from the blades
section from the diagrams of the MLD 200, for the dimensions
120, 160, 180 and 195 from the diagrams of the MLD 400. Then
you add the pressure drop of the AMB and the MLD. About the
noise we take in account the bigger one, except their difference is
smaller than 2 db(A), in this case we add 2-3 db(A) in the bigger noise.
ATTENTION: In all the versions there is a neck which exceeds in the back of the jet nozzle
as you can see in the drawings below. The neck dimensions are shown in the table below, the
other dimensions of the jet nozzle AMB-MLD are the same with the standard AMBs (See page 3).
The way of order is the same with the simple .

AUTOMATIC HEAD ANGLE ADJUSTMENT WITH THERMAL ACTUATOR
(AMB--AUTH)

The automatic adjustment

of the head angle is succeeded
with a thermal actuator which
according to the supply air
temperature moves an axis.
This movement is very intensive
between 20-28oC, outside this
temperature area the
movement is very small.
Usually the supply air
temperature in cooling is below
20oC and in heating is over
28oC.We can use this phenomenon with a proper motion
transmission mechanism to adjust the head angle in the position of cooling or heating. The
installation of the automatic head angle adjustment mechanism is possible in all the types and
dimensions of AMB. The big advantage in this case is that we install the diffuser like a simple one
and we forget it, and that we have not the cost of the electric installation like the diffusers with
electric actuator.

SERIES , OK AND - GRILLES
FOR INSTALLATION IN ROUND DUCT (-SR)
) 1P, 2P, P, 1, 2-SR
The air grilles series and OK, type SR, has a
curved frame which allows them to be fixed on the surface
of a visible round air duct. They are manufactured with the
same curvature as the duct, so that a perfect fit and a high
design are achieved.
The manufactured types are as below:
2P-SR
1P-SR: With one row of adjustable blades parallel
to their larger dimension.
2P-SR: With two rows of adjustable blades, the
front row is parallel to their larger dimension.
P-SR: With one row of fixed blades parallel to
their larger dimension.
1P-SR 1-SR: With curved adjustable blades and one-
way throw pattern.
2-SR: With curved adjustable blades and two-
way throw pattern.
In the type grilles the blades are parallel to their
2-SR
larger dimension.
AMB-AP-SR-22: See Chapter B.
AMB-AP-SR-42: See Chapter B.
AMB-KSR: See brochure.

All the grilles of this series (except of AMB-KSR) can be equiped with damper for regulation
of the air flow. There are two types of dampers:
D: With opposed blades, adjusted with a screwdriver from the front side, i.e.: OK2-SR-D.
DK: Flap type, adjusted with a bar from the front side, i.e.: T2P-SR-DK.

D DK
The fixing of all of the types is possible with screws in the front side.

The frame is manufactured by anodized aluminium (until the dimension 500150) or by

galvanized steel sheet or by steel sheet electrostatically painted in RAL color. The blades are made
by anodized aluminium or aluminium electrostatically painted in RAL color. The damper is
manufactured by aluminium (D) or steel sheet (DK).

For the order, the following combination of letters and numbers is used:

AIR DUCT HOLE CONSTRUCTION

If we want to make a hole on a round air duct with diameter

D, in order to install a -SR type grille with G x E dimensions, we
must make a hole with width G, then we will measure a distance F
on the air duct and we will cut by height. The dimension F can be
found into the table below in function of the E and D dimensions. As
result, a hole G x E is made on the air duct.

B) AMB-AP-SR-22 & AMB-AP-SR-42

The jet diffusers AMB-AP-SR series have a curved frame

manufactured by galvanized steel sheet or steel sheet
electrostatically painted in RAL color, which allow them to be
installed in the side of visible round air ducts. They are
manufactured with a curvature same as the air duct curvature, so
a perfect fit and a high design are achieved.

The manufactured types are as below:

AMB-AP-SR-22: With set of jet diffusers with active diameter 22mm.
AMB-AP-SR-42: With set of jet diffusers with active diameter 42mm.
In both cases the jet diffusers have adjustable head towards all the directions and are made by
plastic in some colors.
They can be equiped with damper D or DK, like grilles of and series.

SRR
CYLINDRICAL DIFFUSER WITH SLOTS
The cylindrical diffuser SRR
is designed in such way in order to
installed easily in networks of
round air ducts. The fact that has
the same geometry with the parts
of the air duct makes it identical for
visible air ducts installations.
The material of the
cylindrical body is steel sheet
painted electrostatically in RAL
color or galvanized. The blades are
made from plastic and they are
colored black or white. This way
we have big flexibility to adapt any
architectural requirements.

The air comes out from the diffuser through a number of slots. Inside the slots there
are adjustable, aerodynamically shaped, blades as shown in Drawing-1. By adjusting the
blades in certain positions we can change the air flow from horizontal (in one or two
directions) to vertical as shown in Drawing-2.
In the case where we use the diffuser SRR for return air then is manufactured without
blades. Behind the slots there is a perforated steel sheet painted black. This way is not
visible from the front side.

AIR EQUALIZATION
To achieve equalization of the air in the diffuser there are 2 ways.
If the diameter of the air duct is constant, we add in the edge of the diffuser (in the side of
the air exit from the diffuser) a disk which equalizes the air in the surface of the diffuser.
If the diameter of the air duct is going smaller and smaller the air equalized from the parts
of the air duct where the diameter is reduced.

MATERIALS

The material of the cylindrical body is steel sheet painted electrostatically in RAL color or
galvanized steel sheet. The blades are made from plastic black RAL 9005 (as standard) or white
(RAL 9010).
In the opposite side of the blades (or in other position if requested) are installed two nuts.
From these, through wire cords we can fix the diffuser in the ceiling.

from inside to outside of the building is only allowed.

MATERIALS
The BN grille is made from aluminium
anodized or electrostatically painted in RAL color.
The wire mesh is from galvanized steel. The frame
BN-B of the gravity blades is from galvanized steel. The
gravity blades are from plastic or anodized
aluminium.
DIMENSIONS When the gravity blades are made from
anodized aluminium we have bigger strength and
longer operational life. When they are made from
plastic they are lighter and they are less noisy in the
opening-closing.

F
ROUND AIR VALVES

The air valves F are used for supply

or return air applications. They are used in
small rooms, WCs and corridors. They
are mounted on walls or ceilings. They are
manufactured from white plastic (ABS)
(F-PVC) or steel painted in RAL color
(F-METAL) or stainless steel (F-SS). The
standard color for the steel made airvalves
is white (RAL 9010) but they can be
F-METAL F-PVC painted in other RAL colors.
The central disc is mounted in a screw and by rotating him is moving in or out.
When the central disc is in, then the air throw is vertical to the mounting surface of the air
valve. When the central disc is out then the air flow is parallel to the mounting surface of
the air valve, also the noise and the pressure drop are less.
The air valves are manufactured at the following nominal sizes: 100, 125,
150 and 200 (hole dimension). For their fixing in the hole an adapter is provided.
For the order must
be defined the type of the
air valve (F-PVC or
PRESSURE DROP DIAGRAMS
F-METAL or F-SS), the
100 125
nominal size of the air
valve, and the color, if it is
different from RAL 9010
(for the metal air valves
only).

DAF
SINGLE BLADE DAMPER FOR ROUND DUCT

The single blade dampers DAF are used to

DAF regulate or shut off the air supply in round air
conditioning ducts.
They are consisted of a cylindrical body and a
round blade which rotates inside the body. Both the
body and the blade are made from galvanized steel
sheet. The blade is rotating from 0o (closed) up to
90o (open).
In the perimeter of the blade a seal is
DAF-M installed. When the blade is in the closed position
(0o) the seal is in touch with external cylinder, this
way we achieve better air tightness.
We can adjust the damper manually or by
electric actuator. The manual adjustment is possible
with a plastic controller (upon request a metal
controller is available, type DAF-M). For the electric
adjustment two types of actuators are available: on-
off actuator 220V or analogue actuator 24V with 0-
10V control signal.
The two sides of the damper are
manufactured in a way which allows the easy
DAF
connection with the air duct. The one side is round

BD
DESCRIPTION
BD is a non-return gravity damper with one row
of free moving horizontal blades. The blades are bridged
(max 4 blades together). For installation in rectangular
air ducts. Allows the air movement only in one direction
and isolates the air ducts when the ventilation/air
conditioning system stops the operation.

MATERIALS
The BD frame is manufactured by galvanized
steel sheet. The blades are manufactured by anodized
aluminium and in the length they have rubber seals for
noise reduction when the damper is closing and better
BD air tightness. For the bridging metal and plastic parts are
used for noise reduction.

FIXING
The BD is installed between two air duct pieces.
The fixing is possible with screws in the holes of the
corners of the air duct profiles.

SELECTION
COMPONENTS FOR AIR
CONDITIONING DUCTS
Our company after many years in
the area of the air conditioning
components construction ( air grilles,
dampers, filters etc ), has proceeded to
the design and development of
components for air duct connection,
which constructs to especially competitive
prices.
The system for connecting air
ducts with profiles is used to all the
contemporary facilities of central air
conditioning. This way of connection of
the air ducts , reassures the minimizing of
the loses, which leads to the reduction of
the functional cost of the facility. Another
characteristic that it has, is the stability of
the construction that it reassures. Also, it
can function in high speed, which means
lower cutting, and that reduces the cost of
the construction of the facility and the
demanded space of its installation.
Another characteristic of the system is the
convenience of the installation, which
means lesser constructive time and
working costs. Below, are described the
materials that are demanded and even
the way for the connection of the air
ducts.
The quality of our products is
guaranteed by our quality certificate

2 1. We assemble the corners and the

profiles. Attention is demanded, so that the profiles are
1
cut in the right length. When we use a corner S-30 the
length of the profile should be 39mm less than the
length of the side of the air duct, in which it is to be put.
When the corner is S-20 the difference of the length of
the profile and the side of the air duct is 37,5mm.For
example, if we have an air duct 60x50cm and we use
profile SB-30, the profiles will be 56,1 and 46,1 cm in
each side.

2. Then we fit the frame that we made into

Detail the air duct. Attention is required so that the sheet-steel
of the air duct is to be fit well to the relevant slot of the
3 profile.( detail A).

3. We fix the frame to the air duct. This can

be done either by screws, as it is shown to the drawing,
or by rivets or by electric spot welding or by connecting
device.

4. We put the isolating material to the one

external side of the profile.

5. We bring in contact the air ducts, which

d we want to connect. We connect the air ducts with
screws to the corners (a) and clumps (b) or drawers (c)
if necessary. The centralizing of the corner can be
done with the help of one screwdriver, which we put to
the small holes of the corner.
