DECLARATION OF MARIA
1 MARIA SEER declare as follows:
1. [make this declaration based on my personal knowledge, and if called as
a witness, l could and would testify to the following matters:
2. Tam Daniel Ramirez Medina’s cousin. I have known Daniel since he was
alittle boy. Our families live near each other in the same city in central California.
Because we live so close to one another our families would get together frequently,
usually once a week.
3. Daniel is a very quiet and reserved young man. He does not like to have
problems with anyone or to cause problems for other people. I am very surprised to
hear that someone would think that Danie! is part of a gang. He has never involved
himself in those things. Daniel has a great heart and has great respect for his mother
and son, and would not do anything that would put them in danger.
4, The tattoo that Danie! has on his forearm symbolizes the place where he
‘was born and where our family is from. Aside from the name of the city and state—La
Paz, BCS—the tattoo includes a star. When Daniel was a boy, it was common for him
to go to the beach and collect starfish with other kids.
5. When the DACA program was announced, Daniel got very excited
because it meant that he would have more work opportunities and could provide for his
family. I remember that when he found out he qualified for the program, he started
saving up for the cost of the application right away. Daniel treasured the program
because it allowed him to get a litle closer to making his dream of buying a house for
his son and mother come true.
6. Daniel left for Washington in December of last year. I did not have a
chance to say goodbye to him, but my mom told me that before leaving, he passed by
her house and asked her to take care of his mother and son. My mom told me that he
was noticeably sad, but that she could tell that he was leaving with a lot of hope. He
hhad previously told us that he wanted to go to Washington to find a job where he could|

7. Danie! is’a‘gresh father. I remember the day his son was born. I went to
the hospital to see him. The moment that Daniel saw and heard his son for the first
time, he started crying tears of joy. When his son turned a year old, Daniel and his ex-
girlfriend baptized him. God is very important for Daniel and his son’s baptism was
very important to him, He said he felt safer knowing that Daniel Jr. was under God's
protection.
8. Daniel spends most of his time with his family. I think that his family is
|the most important thing to him. When he still lived with his mother, he used to visit
my kids, my husband, and me. One of my sons is only a month older than Daniel Jr.,
so when my son was first born I remember that he would come visit me and stare at
hhim and ask me, “Is that what my son is going to look like? Is my son also going to do
that?” He awaited Daniel Jr.’s birth with so much excitement.
9. Daniel also spent time with my husband, who works at an auto body shop
Daniel has always liked mechanics, so he and my husband spent a lot of time together
talking bout how to fix a car or how to improve it. I remember that he used to own a
purple car that we told him he should get rid of, but he insisted that he was going to fix
it. One day, he decided to go buy a motor for the car. The motor was heavy and Daniel
called his mom to help him unload it from my truck, since I had a knee injury and
could not help. Daniel’s mom is small, so Daniel went and got one of Daniel Jr.'s little
toy cars to help him unload and carry it. The moment he put the motor on the toy car,
the wheels broke. Daniel Jr. looked at his father and yelled, “Daddy! My car!” but still
looked amazed that his father could carry, or at least tried to carry, this big motor. I
remember this event in particular because while I found it comical, to Daniel this was
about the commitment he had made to fix his car. When Daniel wanted to do
something, he saw it through. He is a man of his word.
