ThisfontsoftwareincludesOpenTypefontsforuseonpersonalandbusinessprojects(i.e.

IfthisisthefirsttimeyouareusingaSummitsoftfontproduct,youwillneedtoinstalltheFont
ManagementSystem.InstallingtheFontManagementSystemdoesnotautomaticallyinstall
thefontsfromtheCDintoyoursystem.Youwillneedtouseafontmanagertopreviewand
choosethefontsyouareinterestedinusing.Onceyouinstallafont,itwillbecomeavailablein
allyourapplications(makesuretocloseanyrunningapplicationspriortoinstallingthefont;or
justcloseandreopenanyapplicationtogetthenewlyinstalledfontstoappearinyoursystem
fontlist).

Note:Itisnotrecommendedtohavemorethan500fontsinstalledonyoursystematanytime.
Installingover500fontscanseriouslydegradeyoursystem,causingslowperformanceand
systemcrashes.Therefore,onlyinstallthosefontsthatyouwillbeusing.

TheFontManagementSystemprotectspreviouslyinstalledfontsandvitalsystemfontsby
onlyremovingfontsthatwereinstalledusingtheFontManagementSystem;however,youcan
unchecktheProtectmyinstalledfontscheckboxfoundinTools>Preferencesifyouneedto
uninstallafontthatwasalreadyinstalled.Pleasereadthewarningpriortodoingso.

SummitsoftsFontManagementSystemisaninnovativewaytomanageandpreviewthefonts
youwanttouseinyouronlineorprintprojects.

Workingwiththisprogramiseasyonceyoufamiliarizeyourselfwiththeuserinterface.

WhenyoufirstruntheFontManagementSystemabackupofyourcurrentlyinstalledsystem
fontswillbecreated.Thismayhelpyourecoveranydeletedsystemfontbychoosingthe
RestoreFontsbuttonintheFontManagementSystemapplicationwindow.Thisbackupisonly
intendedforuseonthecomputeryourFontManagementSystemprogramwasinstalledon.

THEUSERINTERFACE

TheMainWindowisdividedintoaleftpane,toprightpane,andbottomrightpane.

Theleftpanefeaturesthefollowingtabs:InstalledFonts,Browse,CollectionsandWorklist.
WhenaSummitsoftfontCDisplacedinyourdrive,aSummitsoftFontstabwillalsoappear.

InstalledFontsClickontheInstalledFontstabtodisplaythelistoffontscurrently
installedonyourcomputer.

SummitsoftFontsThistabwillonlybeactiveifyouhaveinsertedanyofthe
SummitsoftFontcollectionCDsintheCDDrive.Onceyouclickonthistabitdisplaysthe
entiresetoffontsavailableontheSummitsoftCD,listedinalphabeticorder.

BrowseThistabisusedtobrowseforfontsthatarestoredinaparticularfolderora
locationonyourharddrive.OnceyoulocatetheFontsfolderclickonittodisplaythe
fontsinsidetheFontsPane.

 CollectionsCollectionsopensthetreeviewofdifferentfontfoldersorganizedinto
groupscontainingspecificfonts.Thisisusefulifyouwishtouseaparticularsetoffonts
foroneprojectandadifferentsetforanother.Youcanorganizethemintodifferent
groupfoldersundertheMyFontCollectionsmainfolder.

WorklistTheWorklistfeaturesthebasicoptionstoaddandeditfontstoaWorklist
beforeyouinstallorusethem.Youcanpreviewthefonts,savetheWorklistoryoucan
eveninstall/uninstallthefontsfromhere.

Ifanyofthesesubtabsarenotshown,youcanopenthembygoingtoViewinthemenubar
andselectingtheappropriatesection.

Thetoprightpanefeaturesthefollowingtabs:CharacterTable,MultipleandRecentFonts.

MultipleTheMultipletabliststhenameofthefontandaquickpreviewofthe
alphabetinUppercase,Lowercaseorboth.OnceyouselectaparticularfontintheFont
Pane,theMultiplesectionautomaticallyhighlightsthecorrespondingfontwhichmakes
itthequickestmethodtopreviewaparticularrangeoffonts.

CharacterTableThistabshowstheentirelistofcharactersavailablefortheselected
fontfromtheFontsPane.Youcanclickonthecharacterandholdthemousebutton
downtoviewalargercharacterdisplayandtogetmoredetailsabouttheselected
character.

RecentFontsThistabshowsalistofallfontsinstalledwiththeFontManagement
System.Thisisusefulinquicklyuninstallinganyfontsyounolongerneedinyour
projects.

Ifanyofthesesubtabsarenotshown,youcanopenthembygoingtoViewinthemenubar
andselectingtheappropriatesection.

Thebottomrightpanefeaturesthefollowingtabs:FontPropertiesandSampleText.

SampleTextAsthenamesuggests,thistabdisplaysasampletextoftheselectedfont
andprovidesoptionstoformatit.Itfeaturesalistofpredefinedtextsamplestomakeit
easiertoviewthestyleofanyselectedfont.

insidetheSampleTextpane.Youcanviewthepropertiesofanyselectedfont,
organizedintofourcategoriesName,Properties,MetricsandAdvanced.

Ifanyofthesesubtabsarenotshown,youcanopenthembygoingtoViewinthemenubar
andselectingtheappropriatesection.

THEFONTMANAGEMENTSYSTEMMENU

ClickontheInstalledFonts menuonthemaintoolbartoviewthefonts
installedonyourcomputer.
ClickonBrowsetolocatethefontsstoredindifferentfoldersonyour
harddrive.
ClickonWorklist toopentheWorklistwindowwhereyoucanworkwith
fonts,editthemandsaveyourWorklistforfutureuse.
TheCollectionsbutton letsyoudisplaythefontcollectionsorganizedinto
differentgroups.
ClickonFontProperties toopenthepropertiesoftheselectedfont.

ClickonSampleText topreview,editorcopytheSampleTextforthe
selectedfontinthefontpane.
ClickontheInstallFont buttontoinstallanewfont.

ClickontheUninstallFont buttontouninstallanexistingfontfromyour
computer.
ClickonthePrint buttontomakeaprintoutoftheselectedfont(s).

SEARCHINGFORFONTS

SummitsoftsFontManagementSystemallowsyoutoquicklysearchforfontsstoredonyour
computer.

Todothis,simplygotoToolsinthemenubarandselectFontSearch.Thiswillopenasearch
windowwhereyoucanspecifywhatfontformatyouarelookingforandwhereonyour
computeryouwanttolook.TheFontSearchcanlookforTrueType,OpenType,and
PostScriptfonts.

Oncethesearchiscomplete,youcansaveyoursearchoraddthefontsinyoursearchresults
toaWorklist.

EXPORTINGFONTINFORMATION

Thisoptionletsyouexportallsystemfontsorselectedfontsasawebpage(HTML),aRichText
Formatdocument(RTF)oraText(TXT)file.

Thiscanbeusefulincreatingfontsamplecatalogsforeasyviewinginaprinteddocumentor
onlinewebsite.

Todothis,simplygotoToolsinthemenubarandselectExportFontInformation.AFont
Exportdialogwindowwillopen.

NowselecttheFontRangeandtheformatyouwanttoExportToandthenclicktheNext
button.Browseforanoutputdestinationfolderyouwanttosaveyourexportedfileto,entera
FileNameandthenclickFinish.Yourexportedfilewillnowbeviewableinyourselected
destinationfolder.

PRINTINGYOUROWNFONTCATALOG

SummitsoftsFontManagementSystemgivesyouaneasywaytocreateandprintyourown
samplefontlist.Thisallowsyoutoquicklysearchthroughaprinteddocumentoffonttext
samplestolocateafontthatisrightforyourproject.

Youhavetwochoices:

1)PrintonlyselectedfontsTodothis,simplyselectafontorrangeoffontsfromanyleft
panetabandthenclickthePrintbuttononthetoolbar.Thiswillshowyouaprintpreviewof
whatyourfontlistwilllooklikebeforeyouprint.Eachfontsampleshowsthefontname,
upperandlowercasecharacters,andapangram.

2)PrintallfontscurrentlyinstalledonyourcomputerTodothis,simplyclickthePrintAll
buttononthetoolbar.Thiswillshowyouaprintpreviewofwhatyourcurrentlyinstalledfont
listwilllooklikebeforeyouprint.Eachfontsampleshowsthefontname,upperandlower
casecharacters,andapangram.

FONTFAQS

1)HowdoIgetthefontstoshowupinmyapplications?

Answer:Thefirsttimeyouplacethefontdiscintoyourdrive,itwillinstalltheFont
ManagementSystemwhichyouwillneedtoviewthefontsavailableontheCDROM.Once
thatinstalls,youcanopentheprogrambydoubleclickingonthedesktopicon,orgoinginto
Start>Programs>Summitsoft>FontManagementSystem>FontManagementSystem.

Onceitopens(makesuretokeepthefontdiscinthedrive)theactivetabshownintheleft
paneshouldshowtheSummitsoftFontsfromtheCDinyourdrive.Simplyselectanyfontor
rangeoffontsfromthispreviewpaneandthenclicktheInstallFontbuttonintheprogram
toolbar.Nowopenanyprogramthatusesfonts(MicrosoftWord,forexample)andthefont
willbeavailableinthedropdownfontmenu.YoucanalsoselecttheBrowsetabtolocatethe
fontsyouinstalledintoMyDocuments>SummitsoftFonts>CreativeFonts.

YoucanalsochoosetoTemporarilyActivatethefont(s)fromtheCDwhichwillinstallthe
selectedfont(s)onlyuntilthenexttimeyoushutdownorrestartyourcomputer.Thisis
valuableinsavingspaceonyourcomputerandonlyusingcertainfontsforthetimeittakes
youtocompleteaparticularproject.

2)HowdoIinstallfontsthatarenotlocatedonaSummitsoftCDROM?

Answer:IfthefontsarepartofanotherCDcollection,simplyplacethefontCDinyourdrive
andthenopentheFontManagementSystemtopreviewandinstallthefontsasdirectedin
thepreviousquestion.

Ifyourfontsarelocatedonyourharddrive,opentheFontManagementSystemandgotothe
Browsetabatthebottomoftheleftpreviewpane.Thiswillallowyoutolocateotherfonts
storedonyourcomputer.Selectingafolderfromthetopwillthenshowanyfontsstoredin
thatfolderinthebottomofthesplitpreviewsectionontheleft.Oncethefontsfromthe
folderappear,youcaninstallthembyselectingthefont(s)andclickingtheInstallFontbutton
intheprogramtoolbar.

3)ArethefontsIinstallwithFontManagementSystempermanent,andwilltheystillbe
availablewhenIrestartmycomputer?

Answer:Yes.FontsinstalledwiththeFontManagementSystemarepermanentlyinstalledto
yourcomputer,unlessyouchosetoTemporarilyActivatethefontsinstead.Thereisnoneed
torestartyourcomputertostartusingthefontsyouinstalled,butyoumayhavetocloseand
thenreopenanycurrentlyrunningapplications(i.e.MicrosoftWord)inordertoseethenewly
installedfontsappear.

4)WillFontManagementSysteminstallOpenTypefonts?

Answer:Yes.TheFontManagementSystemcaninstallanduninstallTrueType,OpenType,
andPostScriptfonts.

5)EverytimeIinstallanewfontIseeamessagesayingIshouldn'tinstallmorethan500
fonts.Why?

Answer:Havingtoomanyfontsinstalledmayslowyourcomputerdown.Havingtoomany
fontsinstalledwilluseupprecioussystemresources(memory).Microsoftsuggestsnomore
that1,000fontsbeinstalledatanygiventime.Wesuggestyouinstallnomorethan500fonts
atatime.Ifyouinstallalotoffontsandyounoticeyoursystemisslowingdown,tryremoving
somefonts.
