UNIT 1: WRITING A NARRATIVE
Last year, I spent my summer holidays at the seaside town. The hotel was modern and comfortable. I had
a wonderful holiday until the fire
It was Saturday evening and everybody was sitting in the discotheque ( which was) on the ground floor.
It was crowded with people. They were dancing and singing, happily. Suddenly we smelt smoke. Then black
smoke began to fill the room. Evrybody started to scream in panic. People ran toward the fire exits. One
door was blocked. Many people began to coughing and choking
Then, just as we thought we had only minutes to live, the fire brigade
arrived. Firemen fought their way into the room and soon everyone ws safely out of the building. Luckily
nobody was seriously hurt. It was the most frightening experience of my life

UNIT 3 : WRITING A BACKGROUND


Mr Brown was born on 12 th November, 1969 in Boston. He went to Kensington High school and passed
exams in English, French and Methematics. He worked in a travel agency from june 1991 to december 1998.
And from 1999 to 2002, he worked as a hotel telephonist. He likes music and dancing

UNIT 4 ; WRITNG A LETTER OF COMPLAINT


First of all, you say that there are only native teachers, but my class has one Vietnamese teacher and two
native teachers. You also say that each class has more than 20 students but there are over 30 students in my
class. Furthermore, in the advertisement, you say we can have books and cassette tapes free of charge but in
fact we had to pay for them. To make the matter wose, the classroom is not air conditioned. That is quite
different from the advertisement. Finally, what I do not likemost about your centre is the time. The class time
is not the same as what the advertisement says. Classes not only start late but also finish early

Updated information, covenience and stress releif are three major advantages that radio brings us.
Firstly, radio keeps us updated with latest information. The news which is broadcast live hourly helps us
understand current events around the world. Secondly, unlike other types of the mass media, radio is easy to
use. We can listen to the radioalmost everywhere with little cost and great convenience. Lastly, radio helps
us to release the stress that we suffer from work and study. Music and entertainment programmes on the
radio are effective ways to make us feel happy and refreshed after a hard working day. In conclusion, radio
has a lot of advantages that make our life easier and more enjoyable

second turning on the left. Walk past the Souvenir shop and you will see my house. Its on the right, next to

UNIT 9 : DESCRIBING INFORMATION FROM A TABLE
Dolphins are not fish. They are mammals that live in the water. Dolphins are among the most intelligent
animals on earth. Although they can be found in all oceans in the world, dolphins prefers coastal waters and
bays. The size of dolphins varies greatly. The smallest dolphin is just about 50 kg in weight and 1,2 metres
in length while the largest one can weigh up to 8,200 kg and 10 metres long. Dolphins are carnivores and
they eat mainly fish. A female dolpphin gives birth to one calf every two years after a gestation period of
eleven to twelve months. A dolphin can normally live from twenty-five to sixty-five years and some pieces of
dolphins can even live longer. Dolphin populations are at risk due to the population of their habitat and
accidental entrapment in fishing nets

UNIT 12: WRTING A PROFILE
Nam Cao was born in Nam Dinhin 1923, into a poor work family. He could compose mucis when he was
very young. He composed his first song in 1939 and quickly became famous. Tien Quan Ca, the Vietnamese
National anthem,was composed in 1944. His artistic works were songs, poems and paintings. He died in
1995. Van Cao was known as a very talened musician and is highly appreciated by the Vietnamese people

UNIT 14 : WRTING AN ANNOUNCEMENT

UNIT 10: DESCRIBING A LOCATION


Cat Ba National Park, which was declared as a national park in 1986, is situated on Cat Ba Island,
120 km from Ha noi and 20km east of Hai Phuong.
Cat Ba National Park is the only site in VN endows with both tropical forests and coastal waters with
white sand beaches, abundant natural resources, beautiful landscapes and many kinds of rare animal and
plants. It covers 15,200 ha, including 9,800 ha of ocean.
Cat Ba National Park preserves approximately 300 species of fish, 40 kinds of animal, 150 different
birds and 620 species of plants.

least 6,000 years ago.

UNIT 13 : MY HOBBY
My hobby is collecting stamps. I collected stamps 6 years ago.
I have been collecting both local stamps and foreign stamps from the letters of friends
and relatives.
I classify the stamps into categories. I put stamps of animals, flowers, birds.on different pages.
I keep them in two albums, one for local and the other for foreign ones.
Collecting stamps help to broaden my knowledge about the world around me and it is also an effective way
to be good at geography.
I plan to join the stamp exhibitions to learn from experienced stamp collectors and I can expose my
collection at an exhibition in the future.

UNIT 1: WRITNG ABOUT FAMILY RULES
Dear Mary,
Today, I have something interesting to tell you. Its my familys rules. Every family has its own rules. Mine
has a few. First, during the school year Im allowed to watch TV until I have finished my homework.
Sometimes my parents let me go out with my friends on Saturday or Sunday, but I must come home early.
Second, in my family everybody has to do their share of the household chores. And mine are doing the
washing and preparing meals. Third, my parents want me not to chat on the phone more than ten minutes.
How about your family rules? I am very happy with my family. My parents really love me and take good care

UNIT 4: DESCRIBING SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM IN VIET NAM
There are two levels of education in Vietnam: Primary and secondary education.
Children in Vietnam go to primary school at the age of six and move to secondary school when they are
11. Then they spend four years in lower secondary and 3 years in upper secondary. They usually finish
secondary school at the age of 17.
Schooling is compulsory for Vietnamese children until they finish lower secondary. It take 9 years for the
children to finish compulsory education. The duration of the academic year is 35 weeks or 9 months. It runs
from September to May and is divided into two terms. The first term is from the beginning of September to
late December and the second term starts in early January and ends in May. A national examination for
GCSE is usually held in June for all students who finish high school. And then those who pass the GCSE
exam are able to sit for the university or college entrance examination in July. Probably, students will take
only an examination for finishing high school and for university or college.

My ideal world will be an interesting one.
People wont use money or credit cards anyone. Special machines will read our fingerprints and well pay
for things that way. We wont have to type on computers. Instead, well say the words, and the computer will
type them. Cars will drive themselves. Well just tell the cars where to go. So kids at my age will be able to
drive. Ill have a pet robot dog. I wont have to feed it, and I wont have to walk it. The dog will only need
batteries. People will live longer, and theyll be active longer. People wont get sick anymore. There will be
many more treatments to cure sickness.
