CASE 15-A: Technology Drives Change

15-14. What are some of the reason people at Crystal may resist this change?

=> People at Crystal may resist for the following reasons.

a. The entire company will be focused on the project while it is being rewritten so there is

chance that no other work will be accomplished in the mean time.

b. It is going to be an expensive project so if the project fails there is a chance of the company

going out of business. This will lead to a lot of people losing their jobs.

c. The sales department is used to selling the current products of the company so if the products

are changed they will have to learn how to product works ignored to sell them more

efficiently.

15- 15. What action might you suggest for helping the Crystal Company deal with the change in

a positive manner?

=>I would suggest the company to hire agents that would constantly monitor and use

organizational development, study the external and internal factors and use the knowledge

gathered for the betterment of the company. The reason behind this is that they can give their

external perspective to make the product more successful. At the same time the internal views

will help the company be more flexible in their produce. In this way there is always a scope of

variety and growth of the products in the company.

15-16. How might this new product development be turned into a case of innovation ?
=> This new product development can be turned into a case of innovation by bringing more

innovative people into the production system. If there are more people in the project writing

process, there will be different ideas and perspective and this may lead to a better innovated

product. Also in this case we see that Alyson was the solo writer of the companys program. so, if

the company brought other people to write the program it could have been more efficient.

CASE 15-B: Moving Changes for Introl System, Inc.

15-17. Why do you believe most of Kathy Wilsons employees were resistant to the move?

Describe the factors leading to this resistance.

=> I believe they were resistant to the move because of the inconvenience caused by the change

in location of the facility. The current location of the facility was convenient for them

commuting from New YorkCity, which was only twenty minutes. But working at the new facility

would require to drive almost an hour. so i think it was not fair to those who were settled in a job

position where the commute was much shorter.

15-18. Assume that you are Kathy Wilson and it is spring 2003. You don't want to lose any of the

skilled and talented people you have on your staff. What specific steps will you take to ensure

that your employees remain at Introl System?

=> If i was at Kathys place i would think of a compensation program for the employees who had

to traveling more because of the change in the location of the facility. Similarly there was no
public transportation available so i would think of arranging some sort of transpiration from the

company to the employees whomever it was convenient.

15-19. Do you believe that company officials could have avoided some of the resistance to

change especially for those employees who lived in New York City? Explain.

=> Yes, i think the company officials could have avoided some of the resistance to change

especially for those employees who lived in New York City. The company knew that most of

their employee committed from New York City. So, If the company came up with a

transportation service for their employee or proposed a compensation program, they would at

least have minimized the resistance. This is because the employees would also get a feeling that

the company was at least thinking about their convenience.
