Inlet pipe ventilated Cooling medium piped in and exhausted
1
to ambient
Outlet pipe ventilated Cooling medium pulled in from ambient
2
and piped out of motor
3 Inlet and outlet pipe ventilated Cooling medium piped in and out of motor
4 Frame surface cooled TEFC motor
Integral mounted heat exchanger (using Heat exchanger integral with motor transferring
5
surrounding medium) heat to ambient
Machine mounted heat exchanger (using Detachable heat exchanger transferring heat to
6
surrounding medium) ambient
Integral heat exchanger (not using surrounding Integral heat exchanger transferring heat to a
7
medium) pipedin medium
Machine mounted heat exchanger (not using Detachable heat exchanger transferring heat to
8
surrounding medium) a pipedin medium
Separately mounted heat exchanger Remotely mounted heat exchanger transferring
9
heat to a pipedin medium

For the Second Characteristic Numeral

The Method of Supplying Power to Circulate the Coolant
Second Source of Power to
Numeral Circulate Coolant Example
0 Free convection TENV motor
1 Selfcirculated TEFC motor
Integral component mounted Blower mounted on separate shaft
2
on separate shaft but driven by main motor
Dependent component mounted Separate motor mounted blower
3
on the machine having same power source
4 (Not used) (Not used)
Integral independent component Motor in cabinet with separate blower moving
5
cooling medium through cabinet
Independent component mounted Separate motor mounted blower
6
on machine with different power source
Independent and separate device Separate blower forcing cooling
7
or coolant system pressure medium through motor
8 Relative displacement Airover motor

IEC DEGREES OF PROTECTION
IP" CODE PER IEC 345

For the First Characteristic Numeral

Protection of Persons Against Contact with
Live or Moving Parts Inside the Enclosure and of
Machines Against the Ingress of Solid Foreign Objects
First Degrees of Protection
Numeral Protection of Persons Protection of Machine
0 No special protection No protection
Protection of large surface of body (e.g. a hand) No ingress of solid objects larger than 50 mm
1
diameter
Prevention of contact by finger No ingress of solid objects larger than 12 mm
2
diameter
3 Does not apply to rotating machines Does not apply to rotating machines
Objects (e.g. tools, wires) of thickness greater No ingress of solid objects larger than 1 mm,
4
than 1 mm (Note 1) excluding ventilation openings and drain holes
Complete protection (Note 1) No amounts of dust that interferes with
5
satisfactory operation of machine (Note 2)
6 Does not apply to rotating machines Does not apply to rotating machines

Note 1: For machines cooled by an external fan, the standard test finger will not contact the fan.
Note 2: When the size and nature of the dust is specified, test conditions should be determined by agree
ment between manufacturer and customer.

For the Second Characteristic Numeral

Protection of Machines Against the Ingress of Liquids
Second
Numeral Degrees of Protection
0 No special protection
1 Vertically falling drops shall have no harmful effect
2 Drops falling at any angle up to 15_ from vertical shall have no harmful effect
3 A spray falling at any angle up to 60_ from vertical shall have no harmful effect
4 A splash from any direction shall have no harmful effect
5 Liquid projected by a nozzle from any direction shall have no harmful effect
6 Water from heavy seas or powerful water jets shall not enter in harmful amounts
When machine is immersed for the time and depth stated in test conditions, harmful amounts of
7
water shall not enter
When machine is immersed to the pressure agreed on between manufacturer and customer for an
8
indefinite time, harmful amounts of water shall not enter

Notes: The second characteristic numeral may be followed by the letters S", M" or W":
S" indicates that the machine was tested against the ingress of liquids with the machine not run
ning.
M" indicates that the machine was tested against the ingress of liquid with the machine running.
If neither letter is used, the machine was tested both running and not running.
W" indicates a weather protected machine. This protection is that under prescribed conditions,
rain, snow and airborne particles will not enter machine in harmful amounts.
