STANDARD: 2 Learning Environments Artifact: 1

ARTIFACT NAME: Classroom Organization and Routines

Rationale Statement:

The document attached is simply a summary of various classroom organization

and routines that have been set into place at Sunnyside High School (practicum site). The

exercise that resulted in the summary was assigned to me as an attempt to understand the

environment that I was studying. I was given a list of questions regarding classroom

policies and routines that I answered after interviewing my cooperating teacher, Willow

Schroeder. Willow taught a resource Science and English class in one classroom and co-

taught an inclusion English course in a different room on campus. By interviewing

Willow and observing her in each setting I was able to compare and contrast the routines

from each environment. I determined that she spent more time building her own

classroom than the room she co-taught in. She taught me a few organizational strategies

that I would love to utilize in my own classroom in the future. By interviewing Willow

and studying the environments I learned that the environment can have an affect on the

students learning. I observed the students in Willows resource science class and followed

them to her inclusion English course and noticed that some of the students seemed more

comfortable in her classroom. Some of the students even asked to complete the inclusion

English work in Willows science classroom. This artifact fits into this category because

it showcases how a learning environment can change a students perspective on learning.
