Directors Journal

The over experience

I believe that the role of the director best suited be as I like to work methodically,
organised and motivating. Im able to give clear instruction, which are simple
and easy to understand this is a very key quality of a director. I gave everyone
their roles/jobs within our group according to their strengths and weakness. This
way we are able to produce high quality work. I also took charge when it was
necessary. This was the best role for me as I couldnt have chosen a better role
for myself. Not only I checked on everyone to see if they are doing their work to a
high standard I also had to ensure that the editor and the cinematographer were
doing their work and that they are on task. I also helped them at necessary time.
It was a challenging role as being the director but the outcome was great and I
enjoyed every moment on being on the set.
Whilst shooting I figured out that it wasnt as easy as I have imagined. It was
really cold outside and at times it would really put us off. I also realised that
being a director was a hard job it was not easy to do the things a director do, for
example positing the characters, to ensure everyone is comfortable and to
ensure everyone was clear to know what everyone was doing.
First filming sessions
Today was our first filming session and it goes to show that many things didnt
go to plan and a lot of things could go wrong whilst filming, such as people
coming in the back ground, lighting not being the same as the sun would come in
and out. The location that we were filming at would mean that we could only film
there at a certain period of time. We also broke the 180 a few times as which
meant we had to go back and re-film that scene. There was also a lot of noise as
the background of cars going past. Which rally made it hard for us to film as the
dialogue of the character was not being picked up by the microphone. So we
then had to dub the dialogue.
We had to change our actor a few times because the actor were only available on
certain days and some of them went on holiday half way through the filming
which meant we had to re-film everything as the previous footage was to no use.
Second Filming session
In this filming session we had to change our location, as we were no longer
allowed to use the location we used last time when we were filming. So we had
to find a similar location. Our first location was an old tall building, so we went
out looking for another tall old building. At the end we manged to find a similar
building in which we were allowed to film whenever. This was a much better
filming session, we manged to get a wide variety of shots in and got to film a
large amount. We all left this session with content and satisfied with footage. The
day after we stared editing the film we found out there were many problems with
the footage. The lighting was horrible so we had to make a plan to fix this
problem. We also found out that we couldnt hear the character clearly due to a
lot of car noises. However the shots that we took and the different angles we
took the shots from were great. We then all planned on re filming again and set a
day to meet up and refilm a few scenes.
Second Filming session
The third filming session was really successful by far compared to the other
filming days. We were more organised we got on with filming straight away and
didnt waste any time. We knew what to re-film and what mistake not to make
again. The whole of shooting went really smoothly in general. Only down side to
this was that we had to wake up really early so that we can film everything on
time as one of our actor wasnt available during the afternoon. So we had to use
the time we had to use our time efficiently so that we can get all the filming done
to a high standard. Over all the filming was as struggle as we had to re-film again
and again which took a lot of time and it was extremely tiring.
