Davison Middle School Pom-Pon 2016-2017

Contract
As a member of the Davison Middle School Pom-Pon team, you are making a
commitment to your coach, teammates, and yourself. By signing this contract, you
are agreeing to abide by the rules of this team from the date you sign this form up
through the ending of the season.
Conduct:

Negative attitudes and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.

You are expected to treat spectators, opponents, coaches, teammates, and
others with respect at all times.
Team members will support and encourage their teammates at all times.
Any problems with conduct will be handled on an individual basis and can
result in demerits, loss of a performance(s), or removal from the team.
Attendance:

All practices are closed, meaning that no parents, friends, etc. are allowed to
be present at practices unless given special permission by the coach.
Although some conflicts are unavoidable, appointments, trips, and other
activities should be planned outside of scheduled practice and performance
times.
If you are leaving early or coming late to practice and are missing more than
a half hour, it is counted as an absence. If the time missed is less than a half
hour and if for an unexcused reason, it will be allowed five times without
penalty throughout the season. Each offense over five will result in removal
from one performance, and a tenth offense will result in removal from the
team.
Examples of excused absences include funerals, a tragic personal or family
circumstance, or illness.
An athlete with an injury is still expected to attend all practices and events.
Examples of unexcused absences include non-emergency appointments,
babysitting, vacations, and family gatherings.
If you do need to miss practice for any reason, the athlete or a parent or
guardian must contact the coach prior to the beginning of practice. There will
only be one pass for this offense. Any additional offense will result in removal
from one performance. A fifth offense will result in removal from the team.
Practices are mandatory, and any member with more than five unexcused
absences will be removed from the squad.
Being on time to practice means being fully dressed with your poms ready to
go, athletic clothing and tennis shoes on, hair up, and water bottles filled.
Five kicks will be required for each minute an athlete is late for practice,
which will be done at the end of that practice.
You are responsible to learn any material that you may have missed at a
practice before the next practice begins. There will be no time for re-teaching
material for athletes who have missed practice. Not having knowledge of a
routine will result in fifty kicks for each practice where knowledge is lacking.
This will not happen for a few simple mistakes, but only when knowledge is
largely lacking. Repetitive problems with knowledge will result in being
benched for performances or removal from the team.
Practice and Performance Expectations:

If an athlete is missing any of the following items: poms, athletic top, athletic
bottoms, tennis shoes (Converse are not allowed), hair tie, water bottle, or
any other items stated as being required on a given day, they will need to
complete twenty kicks for each missing item.
Practicing means being able to perform all of the moves in a routine full-out.
If you are unable to do so due to an illness or injury you will be required to sit
out or mini-motion movements until healthy again.
Wearing jewelry is prohibited at all practices and performances.
Gum is prohibited at all practices and performances. No warnings will be
given about gum and fifty kicks will be completed at the end of a practice or
performance if caught chewing gum.
Cell phones must be silenced or turned off at all pom events, including
practices. If you are expecting an urgent phone call or text please inform the
coach ahead of time for permission to have your volume on. Also, if you need
to leave early and would like to set an alarm so you are not late, you are
allowed to do so with the coachs permission. You will receive one warning for
your phone going off without permission. Any more violations during the
season will result in fifty kicks per violation. Repetitive problems can result in
sitting out a performance.
At school performances, the girls are required to sit together as a team with
no other friends or family so that they can focus on their upcoming
performance and all athletes can easily be accounted for. After their second
game performance they are free to leave or sit with others.
At competitions, the girls are required to sit together as a team with no other
spectators to watch all of the other competitors. With permission from the
coach, they will be allowed to go to the concession stand, bathroom, or
purchase Mid American products, but they must return to the team
immediately afterwards.
Ineligibility:

School guidelines for grades and attendance will be followed. If you are
ineligible, you will be unable to perform until you regain eligibility. It is still
required to attend and participate in all activities with the team while being
ineligible.
An athlete may also be ineligible to perform for breaking the team contract
for the amount of games stated in the contract or decided by the coach in
some circumstances.
Routines:
Being able to perform is a privilege and not a right.
You will not be placed in a competition routine if you: have a consistent
negative attitude, lack proper work ethic, lack knowledge of the routine, or
lack the proper form and technique required at a competitive level. The
placement of each team member into the routine is up to the coach.
Every girl will be given the opportunity to perform at camp and competition
performances, as well as games, unless that privilege is taken away due to
academic ineligibility or contract violations, including not retaining knowledge
of the routine, having a negative attitude, or having too many absences.
Multiple warnings and helpful suggestions for improvement will be given prior
to removal from performances or competitions.
If you are unable to perform a routine full out during the run-through the day
of the game, you will be benched for that performance.
If a girl does not have all of her apparel necessary to perform on game day,
she will be benched from that performance.
If a girl is not placed in or is removed from any performance, she is still
required to attend all practices and events and learn the routine on the side
and know the routine as well as all other team members.
Discipline:

Violation of any of the above rules or any illegal conduct can result in loss of
team privileges, which are determined on an individual basis.
Reprimands could include the following:
o Removal from routines
o Removal from the team
o Demerits, which may include completing kicks, burpees, planks,
running, etc.
Anyone who quits the team or is removed from the team will not be placed on
the team for the next season, unless it is a special circumstance.

If there are any questions or concerns about team policies, please feel
free to contact the coach.
