COURSE SYNOPSIS:

This is an upper-intermediate course which develops students ability to construct


compound sentence structures with the use of relevant phrases and clauses.
Students should be able to express agreements and disagreements with good
justification in listening and speaking activities. Students could infer, draw
conclusions and predict outcomes from reading texts. The grammar in focus
assists students in writing reports, narratives and cause and effect essays.

(Ini merupakan kursus peringkat pertengahan atas yang meningkatkan


keupayaan pelajar untuk membina struktur ayat majmuk dengan menggunakan
frasa dan klausa yang berkaitan. Pelajar dapat menyatakan persetujuan dan
bantahan dengan justifikasi yang baik dalam aktiviti mendengar dan bertutur.
Pelajar boleh membuat inferens, membuat kesimpulan dan meramalkan hasil dari
bahan bacaan. Tatabahasa berfokus membantu pelajar dalam menulis laporan,
esei naratif dan sebab dan akibat.)

RATIONALE OF THE COURSE:

This course serves as a platform to further develop students communicative


abilities that prepare them for real world challenges.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Compose essays that require logical reasoning. (C5)


2. Defend agreements and disagreements with good justification in speaking
activity. (C6)
3. Conclude and evaluate outcomes from reading texts. (C6)
4. Infer general ideas of spoken discourse. (C4)

1. Students must attend all lectures, tutorials, laboratory, studio or other activities related to the course, including courses with no final
examination (perkara 4.1dan 4.3)
2. Student with attendance of less than 80% will not be allowed to sit for final examination. (perkara 4.2)
3. Perkara 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 can be waived for students who suffer from health problems and must be certified by government or UPSI panel clinic
medical officer.

4. Student who has to represent UPSI/State/Country in activity that is directed by the government or UPSI, is required to obtain a
recommendation letter from the Dean and must be approved by the Academic Affairs Division.
