Why Abortion Should be Legal

Abortion is a topic in todays society that everybody seems to have different opinions on.

However in certain occasions abortion should most definitely be legal, but without these

situations being present, that is where the conflict is. Many different people believe that abortion

should be legal completely or not be legal at all, however I think that there could be a middle

agreement between both sides.

Many occasions in a womans life, she has to make choices with her own body and how

to use it. These choices may lead to a woman needing to make a decision to either have an

abortion or not have an abortion, and many factors play into this decision. If a woman cannot

support a child with her current financial status, or lifestyle then she should have a choice to

either have an abortion or give it up for adoption right after birth. However if she can support the

child with her current financial standing then she must have the baby, no questions asked.

Occasionally horrible things happen to other people, and a woman could get involved in a

rape crime. This situation should be her decision, either to have the baby or she could have an

abortion because for her it was not planned, and she was not wanting the baby. Overall in this

subject, if any woman is involved in a rape they should automatically be allowed to have an

abortion. This choice however would have to be approved by the law, and the government should

say it is okay to have before she commits to the abortion procedure.

Women with certain health conditions that have a high risk of a baby being born disabled,

they should have choice as well if they would either have the baby or the abortion. According to

recent studies in the U.S, birth defects are 20% of the total infant deaths. Nearly 3% of the

United States births involve birth defects. If the childs life is in danger, then the woman will

have a choice to either go through with the abortion, or have the child anyway.

In many occasions the womans life may be threatened in the process of giving birth. This

can happen on many different occasions for many different reasons. According to Susan Perry,

A Lancet study published last year put the 2013 U.S. maternal death rate even higher, at 18.5

deaths per 100,000 live births., this means that for every one-hundred thousand live births,

eighteen and a half women die during childbirth. This rate is nearly twice as many deaths

during childbirth thirty years ago. says Susan Perry.

Some people may argue that having an abortion is just murder against another human

being. However according to Luciano Gonzales murdering someone with hopes and dreams,

and useful life is not the same thing. in other words, killing somebody that has no hopes or

dreams of becoming anything for society is different that murdering somebody with hopes and

dreams. According to the law, abortion has no punishment or law enforcement tied to murder

such as prison time or other consequences. Tissue samples have been taken of humans and then

compared with embryo tissue samples, and they are very different. So in this case, embryos are

not technically humans quite yet.

Abortion can be very helpful by saving a womans life if they cannot sustain birth.

Abortion can also prevent birth defects from occurring if there is a chance that the child may

have a birth defect. Abortion most importantly provides a woman with choice over her life, and
how she wants her body to function. Abortion provides more positive effects rather than negative

effects on a womans life and the society we live in today.
