The College of Nursing offers excellent prepa-

Our undergraduate program provides a strong
academic and clinical background for entry
into professional nursing, as well as leadership
preparation at the baccalaureate level for those
who are already registered nurses.
The faculty of the College of Nursing are known
for their outstanding teaching and internation-
ally recognized programs of basic and applied
research and their leadership in nursing practice.

College of Nursing:
A tradition of excellence
Today’s nursing professionals find a wide range of opportunities—from
neonatal intensive care units and research laboratories to corporate offices
and hospice programs. A degree from The Ohio State University College
of Nursing prepares our graduates for their many diverse and dynamic ca-
reer paths. As members of multidisciplinary health care teams, our nurs-
ing graduates collaborate with other health care professionals in a variety
of settings, from rural practices to organ transplant units. Our nurses are
at the forefront of developing programs and delivering care that responds
to our profession’s changing needs. As leaders in research and education,
our doctoral graduates are defining the future of health care today.
The College of Nursing offers diverse academic opportunities so that ev-
ery student experiences a unique learning path. The college is one of the
university’s most advanced units in terms of offering distance learning,
and students have the flexibility to work with faculty in shaping their own
learning experiences within the framework of the curriculum.
Faculty members are teachers, clinical practitioners, and researchers who
have national reputations for scholarship. Thanks to its broad networks,
the faculty is able to find clinical experiences to meet all students’ needs.
Our graduates have consistently scored higher than the national aver-
age on the NCLEX licensure exam, which speaks highly of the academic
preparation they receive. We also require senior nursing students to take
an assessment exam during spring quarter to highlight areas in which
they may need additional preparation. Faculty members work with stu-
dents to strengthen those areas to ensure that they are properly prepared
for the NCLEX exam.

The Traditional Master of Science
The Traditional MS Program provides an oppor-
tunity for students with a baccalaureate degree in

Graduates of the master’s program are eligible for
certification as a Nurse Midwife, Clinical Nurse

Graduate minors and specializations
There are many opportunities for students to
engage in interdisciplinary study through minors
and specializations, both with the College of
Nursing and the Graduate School.
Post-Master’s study option
The Post-Master’s study option provides the
opportunity for practicing nurses who already
have a master’s degree in nursing to prepare for
advanced specialty certification.
Continuing Education
The College of Nursing offers two ongoing con-
tinuing education programs in pharmacology to
meet the needs of advanced practice nurses.

At the doctoral level, our PhD program
prepares nurse scientists and scholars who are
skilled researchers and will advance the knowl-
edge of the discipline. The Doctor of Nursing
Practice (DNP) program enhances the prepa-
ration of leaders for the nursing profession in
direct patient care, the mentorship of others in
nursing practice, nursing administration, or the
crafting of health policy.
The College of Nursing provides the academic foundation that
will allow our graduates to keep pace with change as well as to
set the pace for the profession. This mission is fulfilled through
teaching, research, clinical practice, and service. Nursing
education at Ohio State has grown steadily in size and reputation
since its first program was created in 1914, yet one characteristic
remains constant—a tradition of excellence in pursuing the
highest standards of academic preparation.
