Dear Representative Wheeland:

I am writing to you today to address bill No. H.R. 3005 House Child Nutrition Re-
authorization. This bill is flawed regarding the health of children and negates years of
progress that has been made on the well-being of children. This bill greatly diminishes
the Community Eligibility Provision, by impacting around 7,000 of the 18,000 (38.9%)
currently involved in the program. Additionally, 11,000 schools, currently not enrolled
in the program, would not be able to implement this provision in the future. This bill
also increases verification requirements for school meal applications. By doing this, it
creates an increased burden for families and those who are homeless, migrant,
immigrant or have limited English proficiency and may leave out these eligible
individuals. H.R. 3005 also reduces the USDAs authority and autonomy to enact
programs that promote childrens health and delays implementation of sodium and
whole grain requirements. This can result in decreased nutritional status in youth,
which the program was designed to prevent. Finally, the bill creates barriers to the
efficient operation of the WIC program across the country and can affect how children
receive their food and nutrition support. Representative Wheeland, I strongly urge you
to think about those who you personally represent and how this bill will affect the
health and futures of the children and with that knowledge, encourage others to vote
against its passing.

I would like to request a response and anticipate hearing your viewpoints on the issue
as well as your willingness to encourage others around you to take action.
