S8800 RAID CONFIGURATION & RAID

SETTINGS TOOL PROCEDURES

V3.02 6 HDD

1 Introduction

Follow the procedures below to configure an S8800 FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) for
the appropriate RAID configuration.

These procedures apply to MM (Modular Messaging), MN (Message Networking),

SM (Session Manager), and MBT (Midsize Business Template) FRUs on the S8800
hardware platform. This RAID tool should be run when you have received a RAID 1
S8800 FRU and the application requires a RAID 5 S8800. You will need a monitor
to verify that the configuration is succeeding. Perform these procedures after the
firmware update procedures have been completed, if applicable.

2 RAID Configuration Procedures

2.1 NOTE: This will destroy any data currently present on the HDDs (Hard
Disk Drives). Backup any data or translations before continuing.

2.2 Power down the server.

2.3 Install all of the HDDs that are to be part of the array being created
before running the CD. Reference Chapter 6 Replacing a Hard Disk
Drive at http://support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100069355 for the
procedures on installing hard disk drives.

2.4 Install any additional DIMMs (Dual Inline Memory Modules) (if
applicable) while the server is still powered down. Reference Chapter 3
Replacing DIMMs at
http://support.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100069355 for the
procedures on installing memory DIMMs.

2.5 With a monitor and USB keyboard connected boot the target server with
the CD. The tool will automatically detect the number of HDDs physically
installed in the server and create a new RAID array based on the
detected number of disks. 2 installed HDDs = RAID 1; 3, 4, 5 or 6
installed HDDs = RAID 5.

2.6 Once the target server has fully booted to the CD, the scripts will run
automatically. You will need a monitor to verify that the configuration is
